Came across this: www.ls1gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=202990

For you guys thinking of "tubbing" your cars. I wonder if you can get prefabricated tubs/inner arches?

Summit Racing in the states used to do 'universal', ie cit to fit aluminiun ans mild stell kits. Supplied as a flatpack iirc

Not too sure abot the cowl induction hood, I guess that form must follow function tho smile

I'm always surprised by the interest in drag "racing" on here. I'd always seen it as a purely US quirk, and thought the English were more sophisticated... Here it's very much seen as a "bogan" event, most enthusiasts want to go around corners driving

I did take my race car to the drags once just for a change. Sure it wasn't set up for it, and wasn't particularly quick in a straight line, but I couldn't get over the feeling I'd done a start then stopped before the first corner (where the fun really begins). There was also only 1 other car alongside instead of the usual 30 odd...

ETA... hmm, reading that sounds a bit arsey. Wasn't intended that way, more as encouragement to give actual track days a go if you haven't already. Much more fun (IMHO wink )

tim its so much fun, I love track days but wont track the ro as I dont think it will be as good as previous rides. Amazing but the 1/4 is a very rewarding day out of friendly comp between like for like cars.

That axle looks awfully like a small evolution of the big Holden Salisbury I have in my 1972 HQ...

I have to agree with Tim, I do prefer track days, at least you have some corners but I also enjoyed my day at Shakeys last year and will be doing it again..........mind you a track day is less punishing on the R8, Goodwood here I come.........driving

wavey Hi Tim!

I have never been a much of a fan of drag racing but a few weeks back we went to the 'dial your own' at Kwinana Motorplex and I actually found it quite exciting to watch.

There was a mix of local performance cars, classics, hot rods, bikes and 'proper' drag cars as well as all sorts of normal snotters and jap imports. The idea is you guess your time before you run and you have to be as close as possible without being quicker so it was a real test of knowing your car and being consistent.
As the field got smaller they end up with hugely miss-matched cars lining up together so they handicap the fast cars...a bloke in an ancient Volvo 240 got through to the final based on his quite amazing reaction times and consistent 20 second runs!

Next time there is one one head down my way and Ill chuck some snags on the bbq.

That's called Bracket racing and is normally the way to start in drags, so I'm told.

I once thought that there wasn't much to drag racing, until I did it. I think anyone who doesn't get a buzz out of a 1/4 mile, even a RWYB day, is not a naturally competitive type.

My lad was doing 17's in his little Pug and still enjoyed his day out.

I'll have to disagree with you on that, I raced for 11 years (circuit racing) and won 2 State Championships, I certainly think I am competitive. I guess if you haven't done any circuit driving then a run on a drag strip might be a buzz.

I raced on the ovals (speedway/ F1 stock cars) on and off since I was 19 up until 1998. On the 1 km super speedway in Holland we had contact at 140 mph, so I think I might be qualified to determine what is a buzz or not Tim.

Ok fair enough, but I still disagree with your original comment which I quoted above... I don't get much of a buzz from it, and I am a "naturally competitive type" thumbup
