Hi all,
Just curious, how would a VXR monaro compare to a E45 M3, straightline performance and running costs?
Has anybody owned both?

Similar straight line performance, VXR has higher topend (no limiter). Cheaper servicing for VXR (M3 has bucket and shim tappets). Similar size tyres, easier and cheaper to tune Monaro....

I'm sure that you would like whichever you bought, but the VXR will always make a better noise!

On track days the performance is about the same as my 5.7 ute

Ive been hanging around here for quite a while now!
I had an e36 M3 a few years back, and carlton GSi's, MV6's etc before that. Currently in a S15 silvia, but trying to decide what to go for next, cheap petrol and weak sterling is pushing me towards a monaro! A bit worried about getting parts for it though, as i live in Ireland.

My 5.7 vxr averages 20 mpg. It is fun to thrash, but just as nice to cruise or commute. Can't comment on service support in Eire, try ringing Monkfish or Rapid GB?

Normal "service" parts are no problem. We have extensive stock and we can post stuff to you. We have a handful of customers in Ireland already

Im down south, the land of ridiculous taxes!! To register it will cost 36% of its value, and annual roadtax will be €1566.... a sobering thought lol. But an M3 is in the same boat, so that doesnt bother me.

Madness lol

I'm in the process of looking for a E46 M3 to replace my Monaro (which has been converted to run on LPG).
For sure servicing costs will be much more expensive in the Beemer, performance is similar, although the M3 probably handles better than the Ro.
The Monaro really is one of the most affordable performance cars you can buy, except for fuel costs (which can be negated by converting to LPG)

Newton who goes down the same gym as you may be selling his silver M3 mate... think its only got about 20k on the clock mind so wont be cheap, mind you it is imaculate.
Can ask if your interested...?

(wouldnt a nice RS4 be better...?)

Thanks Roger, I've just had an offer accepted on a 38k 04 car. I expect Newtons' would be a bit more expensive.
If you know anybody interested in my Ro let me know (might even buy you a beer!) it's an 04 VXR / coilovers / remap / LPG / Nav / Bluetooth (exhaust and APs by negotiation).
Cheers

hmmm 04 VXR - best model of the lot, all the HSV goodies, a big boot and decent diff ratio for getting off the line. Oh and at an initial 50-60 imported and a few written off since its one of the rarest Monaro's you can find. Shouldn't have too much hassle shifting it.

Hope so, It's done a few miles but will be cheap enough. I really should tuck it away, it's one of those cars which I know I'll regret getting rid of.

Had a Beemer once. Good cars. But you cannot beat the sound of a full house V8, end of!

Also Beemers are like dog st, they're everywhere, Ro's aren't. (Poor old Mels still waiting to get spotted).

Rogers got your spares sorted, petrol's getting cheaper, so go on,

Get a Monaro, you'll be noticed, and be instantly loved on this exclusive forum.

How much are you asking for it, with bits and without bits? Will ask about.

Thought £12k without APs and exhaust, would suit somebody concerned about mpg, I get 22mpg on LPG @48p/litre, forgot to mention It's also got Monkfish road response and their upgraded brake pads in the standaed calipers.
Also got a repaired vxr front bumper in the loft which I was hanging onto 'just in case!'
