You'll be lucky. It couldn't pull the skin of a rice pudding

Really...? The one im buying seemed to go quite well TBH. No Monaro but very crisp on pickup and go. Have you tried taking yours out of "winter" mode on the gearbox settings... Silver is the fastest colour with Mercs mind.
I've had it three years and have yet to have a summer, however yes its been out of winter mode. Still very sluggish on acceleration. Comfortable i suppose but just boring. What year did you get?
Its a 2000 model. Got a very small amount of tin worm in the trailing edge of the rear arch which could probably be controlled by keeping it clean and waxed but my cousin works for MB and seems to think they might do it under warrentee since it has a FSH...? Will find out when it goes to him for a free full detailed service (part of the deal since he is having my old Vectra). When did you last have yr auto box flushed and the oil renewed along with the gearbox oil filters....? Its supposedly done by MB during the service life but I doubt it! That may be why yrs is sluggish - how many miles?

67,000. I'm not aware of any gearbox oil or filter changes but it would be interesting to see if that helped. The guy i bought it off said it was very quick. I don't know maybe i'm expecting to much. I had been used to a 740i BMW and a Boxter S which were both very quick cars and now the Monaro. I don't think the Merc would have ever stood a chance.
How do you find he interior? I think its very comfortable but VERY basic. The steering wheel volume buttons are far sturdier than those on the Monaro but other than that the Vauxhall is miles ahead. I suppose you could put that down to the year of the Merc(2001) but that was the same year as the Porsche and BMW and both were way better.
TBH I don't get it back home till Sat so cant comment alot. Interior does feel comfy which is one of the reasons I bought it. Leather is alot better quality than the Ro although the dash is typical late 90's early 2000 style and whats with the tiny glove box! I suppose comparing it to your previous cars might be an issue as I compare it to a 2.2 sri vectra. I'd get the G Box done if I were you if only to prolong the life of it. Every auto Ive had which has had the oil changed has worked alot better.
Getting the split rims on mine refurbished next week, first thing I'm doing to it as hate marked alloys!
What average mpg do you get outta yrs...?

On a run I'd say about 32mpg. Not bad at all although with my job its not so good as i do about 20 calls a day, all within a mile of each other. Col also hates marked alloys so got our AMG rims done a few months ago. There polished and came up beautiful but the bell end that refurbed them coated them in lacquer which chipped and i now have dirt working its way under the surface. The result is that i cant get them clean so i have to book them in and get them done again properly. As for the glove box, its a joke. The only thing i have in mine is the service book and wheel locking nut. If you let anyone else drive it you'll notice they'll not be able to find the handbrake. Do you have the 6 CD changer in the boot? Actually thinking about it that's another thing that is superior to the Monaro. The sound system is excellent. The speakers as standard can cope with music being played loud. I always feel I'm going to blow a speaker in the Monaro.
Its due a service soon so i'll have them do the gearbox oil and filter at the same time.

Most of my driving is up the A34 and back so 32mpg sounds very good to me! Not sure about the multi changer, its a single disk up front which is fine for me if its not got the extra in the boot. Was wondering about the alloys and whether to leave the edges polished or have them laquered on top... suppose the later is OK so long as they dont get chipped but Ive yet to see shiney laquered alloy which does not have the crazed lines building up very quickly after being re-furbished.
Sorry for the delay in response works doing my Swede. Anyway IMO you cant have polished alloys lacquered without them chipping. I mean i was so protective over them when i got them done. They looked awesome. The chips just sort of appeared. They really look awful. I'm going to make it my mission to learn to download pics this weekend. Let me know what you think when you pick it up please.
The only issue I have with leaving the edges polished but un laquered is that I would need to keep polishing them and this is suppose to be a second car/hack which bar the occasional clean is suppose to just be used... will see what my mate says when he inspects the alloys and suggests what to do regarding refurbishment.
