What are the correct tyre sizes on a standard CV8 please ? Is there any difference between an older/modern version ?

mine came with 235/40/18 extra load. It should say on the tire plate in the drivers door tire sizes were same on all cv8s i think only vxrs had 245 all round. Ive now got 255 on the rears

^^ what he said ^^
2004 CV8 is 235/40 18" extra load, but you can put 255/35/ 18" on the rear for same rolling radius and a little extra width

Yep, 245/35 19", and you can just about do 265/30 19" at the rear

how far can you go on a cv8 rim then i helped putting 255s on and it was a struggle plus the sidewalls were just about ok, i thought vxrs had the same 8 inch width of rim correct me if im wrong

255's the limit and 245 for the fronts.
As a 255'er myself, not sure if any benefit (especially in the wet) of the extra 5/10mm, i'm going back to 235's when i finally find sone dry tarmac to wear mine out on.....
Cheaper cost for the 235 means you can get a more grippier tyre for same cost, so evens itself out i reckon, and you get a more stable ride.....

i paid the same for 255 as i did for 235 im on kuhmos at mo the grips great but the road noise is horrendous so il be going back to bridgestones although they dont last as long. As for grip i think it improved a little in the dry

255 is too wide for a 8" rim IMHO. Yours might be ok at the moment but that doesn't mean it's safe.

I think 245 + decent rubber + RL traction control is probably the best option. The other risk with fitting super wide wheels is it may ruin the friendly/tail happy balance of the car. On higher power FI cars you also run the risk of breaking drive shafts.

I've got Goodyear F1s on mine and I find them a really good compromise between grip, price and wear.

at the moment i find 255 still acts very fluid. Although i think im gonna try a decent set of tires and probably at 245 i think race logic is out of the question il just try and perfect my foot work

The main reason I used 255 at the rear instead of 245 on the 18's was because it meant that I was able to retain a more similar rolling radius with the reduced profile.
