Vibe do some seriously HD component speakers which you can remove the mid and tweeter section to leave a type fo sub speaker... and they "just" fit into the orriginal housings on the rear shelf and just clear the top of the fuel cell in the boot if you have a late model VXR. Got some pictures at home of when I did mine if you want me to post them up...?

If you have a monaro. they are 6" subs in the rear deck. Elemental Design do some nice ones that drop in. you have to put a 6 or 8 MM spacer in though as they don't fit into the original brackets.

i did mine a few weeks back and they sound great.

i can safely say there 6" in mine. and they where just a tad to big to reuse the original housing

I also swapped mine for the ED subs above - excellent sound.

Ferret's '04 and my '05 CV8's both definately had 6" subs in rear deck. Don't think HSV changed 6" for 8" subs when turning CV8 into GTO (VXR)- but I could be wrong.

BTW, the 6" is the cone diam, the overall speaker (including frame and mount) is 7.5" - could this be where 8" comes from?

Subs mounted without a sub box are mounted in whats called an 'infinate baffle' setup. Not all subs are designed for this install method. This is why I (and Nic) chose the Elemental Designs fingies - they are designed for 'open' or 'enclosed' box or infinate baffle installs + superb quality and sound excellent. Have a look at the specs in the linky above.
