I only have one key for my car (as that is all I goit when I bought it). Given they are quite hard to break into if you lock your keys inside, I would like to get a spare.

Any ideas of the best place to get one and how much it is likely to be? (either complete key, or blade only)

ebay australia for the blades/buttons then you get them cut and programmed to your car, not sure what the procedure is for that though.

I "think" you can use the blade from the existing key and just use it to open the car with the new head on it.
You may need to replace the keys as a pair as the head has a special resistance to pair with the car IIRC.

If you search on ls1.com.au or similar you might get some more info. Someone I know in the UK recently did this on his GTS and he said it was a simple matter which did not require and dealer involvement. I seem to recall all that was required was to manually unlock the car, then use the key to start it. That re-paired the key to the BCM, but Im not 100% sure.

Recently the buttons didn't work, so I opened the car with the key. The alarm went off when I opened the door, but as soon as I started the car all returned to normal. If I can get the blade as a spare for emergencies, I am not worried about the button piece.

Given it is an odd looking key, I just need to work out if someone can cut it in the uk. confused

Im having the same problem, found this on ebay OZ though

The guy will program the key with the 6 digit code you supply and will also supply the blank blade, im assuming you can get the blade cut from your original key, im going to give it a try myself.

I happen to have three keys for my CV8 04. Open to offers if someone wants to buy one. You'll obviously have to get it coded to your car yourself

I might be keen to give one a try (pm me a price). Not sure how to code it, nor where to get a blade, or have it cut, but you have to start somewhere! biggrin
