I am due to collect my VXR8 at the weekend so this is a hello post. I will post pics as and when possible.

It is coming with SatNav which I understand was a dealer fit option. I have searched back but cannot find exactly what type of SatNav unit is fitted. I saw some reference to it not being the best unit but I am used to that with the system I have in my MG ZT and use a TomTom when on a tour anyway. Can anyone advise?

Unfortunately the car is my work car so I will not be able to do much on the modification front although they do at least pay for the fuel!

Cheers

Hi and welcome............I didn't have it fitted to mine, vx wanted fifteen hundred smackers at the time for a system which I felt was not that good, just use my snooper nav/camera unit. Enjoy the car!!!!!!.............

Thanks for the replies. I am looking forward to collecting the vehicle at the weekend. driving

I do not think the satnav would be worth £1,500 if I was buying new but on a secondhand motor it is one of toys I like to have given a choice. As it was I gave the guy who sourced the motor for me a yes/ no list and this one came back with the satnav.

Cheers

Factory system is a Blaupunkt. Functionally same as regular Vauxhall units but no TMC.

I think ringham got it in his.

Although from reports I'd suggest sticking with the TomTom.

Welcome mate, the more the merrier, enjoy that big lump!

I've had Tom Tom - trouble. Now got Garmin - great. Superb in Europe too.

How does one bludge a car like that for work??

I have it in mine and it's ok although I wouldn't pay money for it
Fiddly to enter destinations - no postcode entry - but on the plus side you do get full European
Coverage and it integrates nicely with the stereo - and no nasty marks on the windscreen

Must admit, Tom Tom it is for me too. £1500 is a lot or money just to have an integrated sat nav. Of course if someone else is paying, fair play!

btw, has anyone tried the premium audio from Walkinshaw? JBL speakers, amp and twin subs? Had subs in cars before, though not sure its worth it in the R8...enjoy listening to the engine too much but just wondered if anyone has them and has a view. Another £1500 which is a huge amount compared with what I've paid previously at a car audio place.

Thanks for further replies, seems like a friendly forum.

Sounds like the Vauxhall system is similar to that MG set up, ie ok provided you do not pay for it but not ideal for euro tours. Anyway, as it is already in the motor, it will be unobtrusive.

As for work car, I do not do many miles so (hopefully) the cost should not be too bad. Also I do not think that they actually realise what it is, I said what I wanted and found it, it is just a Vauxhall family saloon car is it not? smile

thats what so good about the R8, great V8 sound (with exhaust mod), great performance and getting the whole family in the car in total comfort! Had Sagaris before, great car, fast but only 2 seats..bit crap...R8 is great...you'll be searching for that supercharger before you know it biggrin

It's fine in Europe - well, France anyway. Got me around Paris and down to Toulouse so I'm quite happy.

Has more countries available than you can shake a stick at.

You get a dvd player with it?? I didn't know that...

I have a garmin but i don't trust it as far as i can throw it, stupid woman has sent me on a lot of meanless cross countries before JUST because i didn't want to take the turning she wanted me to LOL

Was thinking about going back to TomTom but if that Nav has dvd player i might see if i can get it out of the dealer cheaper lol

The DVD player isn't part of the Sat Nav package. The DVD is extra. It has a drop down screen in the back with wireless headphones. The front screen will show the dvd when the car is stationary.
