For various reasons I havn't been able to use the Ro for a couple of months, is it worth removing the spark plugs and squirting some oil down the cylinders to reduce any wear before starting the engine up?

Has anyone removed the lower plastic section of the boot lid? the reason I ask is to find out if it's a rust trap or not.
...and no,I havn't been out much over the winter...thanks for asking though...

No - oil shouln't get in that part of the cylinder. The oil should only be a tiny film between cylinder wall and piston and not get into the combustion chamber (otherwise you'll get nice blue smoke out the exhaust).

Couple months is fine. Just start it and don't put the engine under load until it's had chance to circulate everywhere.

If you put too much (read any) oil in there it might hydraulic on the power stroke and bend the conn' rods. Like Ads said, just don't load it up until the oil's nice and warm.

Thanks for the reply,

I did wonder about the blue smoke effect.. I just thought the entire engine would be bone dry. I think a gentle warm up drive will be on the cards next week.
