Pinking - Detonation - one for the fish

People, Geordie and Sir Monk of the Fish........

I for the first time a long time was able to do some WOT Driving yesterday, however during some nice foot the floor gear changes from 1st to 2nd and 3rd I noticed, what to me sounded like a little bit of pinking.

I have a 56 plate 6.0 VXR with rip shifter, performance pac and wotec CAI, valved exhaust in loud mode and running shell optimax.

I haven't had pinking during normal driving since getting it from Monk back in Nov'ish time, however to me it was very noticeable yesterday. I wonder if it was a combination of cold intake temps and poor fuel (but it was optimax).

Monkfish may be able to give me some advice here....

I'm going to be moving my working contract from Harrogate to Hook near Basingstoke so I could always call in one weekend ...... give you a listen?

I appreciate any help anyone can give as always.

Don't go WOT again until you've got it sussed, just in case it is leaning out.

I won't fella, don't worry, I'm not some ham fisted knacker I'm quite the worrier and I always tend to lean towards being careful rather than being risky.

Installing 400cc injectors in my little glanza turbo just in case when upping the boost to 1.5bar with the new turbo even comes close to running lean.

easy thng to check is the plugs - if they are overheating then you should be able to see as this can cause pre-ignition.

I still have the plugs I removed from mine which I did after a strip session last year. Noticed pinking type noise but logs showed no adverse knock or leaning. After getting plugs out and adjusted the issue had gone.

Changing the plugs is not a particularly pleasant job on the v8

If you can borrow or use a scantool you can use it to log detected knock, which is invaluable.

Though in my experience if you hear what sounds like knock it is quite likely to be so. As mentioned take it back for checking

I will pop in, I'll be down there Mon-Fri and back up to Newcastle most weekends, far too close to Monkfish now ..... must say no to SC, diff, brakes, suspension and bushes ... grrrrr
