What is the widest tyre you can stick on the standard 18s on the CV8. Before the exhaust and headers the 235s were coping but now the traction control keeps kicking in every 5 minutes to the extent that I am turning it off to avoid irritation. However the downside is the lack of traction is still there and I can't afford to go through tyres too quickly. I also don't want to drive like Miss Daisy. Would 245s or even 255s fit on the standard rims?

245 front 255 rear. i have 245 all round as I think 255 is a stretch on an 8" rim. I think tyre quality is more important than width.

I wish somebody would calculate the relationship between width and grip. Richard/Granadaman?

Hi Wormus

Thanks for the quick response! I am assuming you are running this rubber? I heard about your car when I was up at Rapid getting my car dynod.

What tyre brand are you running?

I have Goodyear Eagle F1s and I think they are good wet or dry.

Mine is run in now so I'm waiting for the call from Mark to take my car back and give it full boost. 15psi and 60lbs injectors are being talked about.

I am looking to track my car perhaps 3 or 4 times a year and my first outing on allbeit a tight circuit highlighted some problems with the standard set up, getting the power down was one of them.

I actually found it incredibly frustrating not being able to get the power down out of corners and having to let faster cars by which on paper just shouldn't have been.

Have you had any modifications carried out suspension wise? e.g bushes

What he said

255 is a stretch - it doesnt look any wider just a bit of a straight tyre wall, and personally I don't think the grip warrants it. Although having said that the Nexens (current) do grip better than the Falkens (forget tyre wall strength everybody!!)

If you are tracking it, remember side wall strength is probably more important than footprint to keep you planted.

If you intend doing that many track days get a spare set of wheels and use second hand slicks

No mods to suspension but I will get Racelogic TC when I can afford it.

Hi Wormus,

Sorry, just a quick question - are your tyres F1 normal (pointed tread) or the F1 Aync (normal looking) ? As per tyre thread I am looking at the Async but found a bod on ebay doing 4x for £560 plus delivery of the original F1s.

Many Thanks
Steven

Hi, I have normal/pointy tread. I know everyone has their own opinion on tyres but I found them to be a good compromise between grip, wear and price. In the dry the grip is excellent.

I've got a pair of part worn Mich PS2's in CV8 size that I'm open to offers on..

No lack of traction with them, also agree the F1's are good, both better than the aweful Bridgestones....
