Yes and develop a RHD Mustang. Probably not now but you would have hoped they would have followed GMs lead a few years ago. For me I would prefer the less overtly sporting offerings, still the large pushrod V8 power train but not the VXR stuff etc.

Some crowd did bring some in for a while.
Ive seen various around and wanted to buy a 5L fairmont but it was a bit pricey.

They are good value and larger than the commodore generally.

Ive owned 2 over here, an 89 EA Falcon and a 96 EF Fairmont, which was very nice. Both around the £1000 mark.
Cant be beat smile

IslandBoy give me jip at last years Australia day when I brought it to the Ace!

Nige, there's actually a blue and white one like this in Rayleigh, but I've only ever seen it parked up.

Ford UK did import Australian Falcons from about 1967 to the early 80's.
Models covered were the 67 200 and 289 XR Fairmonts through the 77 250, 302 and 351 XC GXL sedans and wagons, and ending with the LTD's in about 82.

Ford Australia also sold new RHD Mustangs in 65 and 66, and again in 2000 when about 250 were converted by Tickford for Ford.
It was a hugely expensive exercise and i believe quite a few of those ended up in the UK.

I agree, pig ugly, horrid tray!!! However, having driven the BA version with the boss 5.4 motor and a big bore, they do sound better (different firing order). In addition there was more storage room aft of the driver in the cab (now fixed in the VE of course). And, even though they still use a live axle, they seem to handle better too. Six speed manual shifted better than HSV equivalent.

NB Comparisons made between BA XR8 ute and stock VZ Maloo.

And having said all that - Chev's still rule!

My brother and I looked at an LTD in the early nineties, think it was Y reg. It was at a garage near Bath. Didn't go out in it but started it up and watched it splutter into life with lots of smoke etc. Well rusty underneath, all a bit sad really.

Had this ute for a while & it worked hard & got cained more than any other vehicle I have owned, very robust vehicles, not pretty as said but I found it unbreakable, brilliant sleeper too, mine was the Tickford tuned XR6 turbo & chipped, was great fun for annoying M3s biggrin

yeah the Au model sucked big time. sales were crap. But it got lots of good changes.

They are much better value than the v6 commodores that come up from time to time.
