Can you describe to us what a crank viberation sensor is ?

If the title thread is correct, then yes of course it has a crank sensor.

Yes I do understand that there is a crank sensor, however some engines are fitted with crank vibration sensors.

Ok I have an on going problem that is getting worse, when gently accelerating there is a nasty noise (metallic) coming from the rear of the engine. In the past the engine has gone into "safe mode" at higher revs, but last week and today it went into safe mode at about 2,500 revs.

The car had a full service about 300 miles ago.

Ideas anyone??

Some of the early 2005 made LS2's had harmonic balancer problems which would trip the knock sensors.
Also there were two types of sensor fitted which were different but had the same part number and there were issues here.

What year's yours? (Not reg year build year)

Any harsh metallic noise from the motor may trip the knock sensors causing the ecu to pull timing and therefore performance.

Well on my scanner it is showing no faults, either live or stored. The car resets it self everytime you turn the ignition off and then restart, but it is now taking two or three times before you are back to normal.

I have no loss of oil.

Ok the car is an 07, built in 05 so still plenty of warranty left always assuming that there will be a GM.

Sure it's not the clutch release bearing or something non engine related?

Or, could the engine be pinking under load?

ETA, the crank sensor and knock sensors could be replaced in case they are at fault.

The OBD2 reader I am using does have a live data stream giving BTDC etc but without knowing normal values not a lot of good to me, and even then she has been "chipped" from new by Wortec.

So I guess it is time to take her back to the dealer.

Yeah if its pretty metallic sounding are you sure its not something to do with the clutch or even the cats dropping their guts?
If it drops power it could be the cats gone. (ie) ceramic chunks blocking the exhaust. Ask Chris Donk about his recent experience with his tonner with a similar problem.

Did you get a dash light? In which case there must have been a code. If its reset when you power cycle then your scanner must not read historical codes out.

Mmmmmm Hi Richard, Oh dear yesterday I did smell bad eggs!!!!! No MIL on, so no codes right? Clutch? nope I don't think so, or bearing failure, Oh and another thing I am losing MPG so could be cats.

If its making loud metallic noises......why are you still driving it and not having it looked at ?

If its the exhausts....no major harm done. If however it was engine/drivetrain related, it could turn into something very serious.

Metallic noises are never a good sign lol

Ok, well the car is booked in for Monday, and there are no courtsey cars for 2 1/2 weeks!!! Not good is it, just left stranded now, so God knows the next time I will see my car. Just another cut back I guess.

Just had another one of my cars in for engine work at that was away for 7 weeks and no courtsey car.

^ It was invented by Wolfgang Dopplerwobblymythingamajig. They live in the valley where they jump and down every time the crank feels a bump in the road.
