was your tank below quarter full. If so it sounds like fuel pickup problem caused by you being all crossed up which caused the fuel to wash about the tank and be momentarily clear of the pick up giving you no juice to run on a short time later.

Yes that is common. Most have drilled the fuel bucket to eliminate the pump sucking the bucket dry faster than it can refill. But you cannot run the tank less than a 1/4 after doing the "drill mod" as the gas level will be to low to pickup.

Another thing all should check as every Monaro I have ever looked at had a kinked fuel hose....here I'll show some pics....firstly here is the fuel bucket drilled...
Now here is the stock (black) fuel hose next to the blue hose we replaced it with....
Now look at the "kink" in the stock hose. 100% of the Holdens I have ever looked at have this kink.....do you think maybe this will restrict the flow of fuel?

That hose is a pretty serious and fundamental design problem! I think I'll have to attend to this pronto.
