Hello,

Sorry, I realise this has happened to quite a number of us, sods law it has happened to me now at just over three years (paint with a time bomb in it I think). Anyone know roughly the cost of a prep and respray and also if the parts are available from Vauxhall and again roughly how much? I am also going to email holmart in Aus to see the costs for just the handles.

Rather than the car being off the road for several days I would not mind buying new handles and getting them sprayed, leaving the nice job of cutting the soundproofing out of the way and replacing the handles !!

Cheers

I've heard that they are the same as Omega front door handles. Not verified tho, next time I'm at the scrappie I'll check as mine are peeling too. My plan is to rub them down myself and then get them painted off the car, using proper plastic primer and topcoat.

I'd second that. Just find a scrapped/dismantled Omega and save yourself a lot of hassle.

My door handles are fine at the mo, but thats the route I personally would take if they started peeling. In fact if you ever get the chance to sit in an Omega you'll be surprised just how many things they share with the Monaro. The door cards, interior handles, door lock buttons etc etc.

Mine were Ok for over three years. The first time I ever got the car washed at the local serbian outfit I noticed some paint had gone.

Anything to do with the power washer they use?????????????

think it was Will (V8 HSV) that told me he managed to blow a big chunk of paint off the front of his car with his pressure washer so with the "problem" door handles wouldnt surprise me if one was able to lift the paint off if held too close. Ever since I heard that story I never use the pressure washer at anything over about 50% pressure and always keep it will back from the car. If using one of the ones in a garage forecourt I tend to stand 5-6ft back with the wand to reduce the force of the jet hitting the car.

Hi Gareth,

Not the reason for mine, as only been power washed about twice in its life with me (from new) - good old two bucket or grit guard solution for me

Omega door handles seem nice and cheap on ebay.

Cheers
