A couple of years ago pretty much everyone was going for Wortec ones. What are the various options at the moment? I want something fairly similar in appearance to the stock system (twin pipe, flush to the bumper) and to hopefully avoid the dreaded cruising revs boominess. Would maybe consider tubular headers also, but maybe not if they cost £2k. Can you get Borla systems in the UK? What non-Wortec systems do people have on here?

I was something that sounds meaty but not too many dBs, I'm on good terms with the oldies on our road and want to keep it that way.

PS. I don't have anything against Wortec but I know they can be boomy with the stock headers, hence looking at alternatives.

Personally all I want is optimal flow from an exhaust. Noise is secondary. I also dont want drone etc.
I have ended up with a Difilippo exhaust from Oz as have a couple of others. I got mine direct, but I think rapid is a dealer here.
You can hear mine at the dyno day. Its a very low bass sound with zero drone etc. That being said it likes setting off car alarms in underground... and overground car parks. But I think thats the low frequency shock waves smile
I have a dual 3" with metallic substrate cats and 1-7/8 long tube headers so she is a fairly hefty size.
In a cv8 dual 2.5 with 1-3/4 headers would be best. Just use good mufflers with requisite flow and your middle box/resonator and high flow cats. Afterwards it should all be nice. Some guys cut the middle mufflers or cat out and the noise climbs from there.

How much do you reckon a full Di Fillipo system (headers + cats + cat back) + fitting + mapping would set me back? I *may* go for a power upgrade in future (s/c or cam+heads) so it'd be good to have something a bit future proof.

I've just bought an '04 CV8 with a Wortec system including the headers and sports cats.

Only driven it home from the seller but it was some motorway and then a few A roads. Really wasn't very noisy at motorway speed at all (was only doing 70 max), no drone. Wasn't very noticeable at other speeds to be honest, only if you stuck your toe down did it still to burble nicely or when you went down through the gears. Did have my windows up mind as it was later evening.

Makes a nice rumble just sitting there so I guess it does make a good noise behind you.

Worth bearing in mind before you order an exhaust for an "04 CV8" that an early 04 (ie V2) had the single side exhaust, while Sept onward (VZ) has the proper twin exhaust, and they are not interchangable...

if you have a good pipebander locally, why not just remove the front two silencers & replace with straight through tube to leave just the rear box?
Works fine, nice low rumble, not raspy, and no drone. Cheap option too, and you can laways put them back if you dont like!
