Quick one for those that know...
SC LS2 oil temp...is 130-135 degrees normal for sitting at ~3K RPM in 5th and ~80-90MPH?
Only reason I wonder is that since I got it back from Picadors for the oil change, when I've 'pushed on' started noticing either a small amount of smoke off the engine (or behind the car) or just a whiff of hot oily smell in the cockpit.
Nothing major and I cant see any leaks or anything unless its from a breather pipe somewhere!!
Didnt notice anything yesterday at SRR. Anyway, normally it runs about 110 degrees, but seems to be running a little hotter than I remember seeing. I couldnt find anything in the manwell about what I should expect.
cheers

Normal is 110 for me.
The only time I've seen it up above this is some spirited driving well over 3k rpm.
135 feels awfully hot to me.
As for the smoke - quite common I believe on the manuals. the gearbox brather pipe often spews out some excess oil onto the transmission where it turns into smoke. I think HSV apparently overfilled the gearboxes to make them a little quieter.

Mine has only done that during a track day, not normal driving............trust you enjoyed Brands!!!
Yeah Brands was great thanks Chris. Didnt stay for the last BTCC race, my kids had had enough and I was facing a 2.5 hour drive home but was a really great day!Couple pics of the R8 and Monaro's in the VXR Parking area, the VXRs ready to go and one of my kids (2 of them anyway) in the VXRacing tent...there seemed like hundreds of other VXRs in the parking area, but the few Monaros/R8s really stood out which was great

Thanks to Dougie and Vauxhall for the tickets!!

There is a breather pipe recall peak to picadors. There is a white smoke thread sum where.

Ok thanks Kev, would that explain higher oil temps too? Not sure if that gauge measures engine, gearbox or both.Either way, I'll give Picador a bell tomorrow to see what they say.

The change in oil temp will probably be down to the new oil. We have noticed that the Royal Purple we use runs cooler than the standard GM fill. Indeed, your car was the one we first noticed it on

I've seen anywhere from 110 to 130.
As for smoke etc when pushed. If its white it may be oil, black fueling.
Don't forget under boost the FI setups don't have an as effective PCV system in operation. Older ones blew out dipsticks etc. It could be crankcase pressure pushing oil out somewhere.

It's booked into Picador for tomorrow so we'll see what happens.
Its definitely changed though, even my sedate run into work this morning, nailing it only once or twice
on a dual carriageway but mostly just pottering along in town it was showing 120 degrees.
Believe its running Red Line oil on Wortec's recommendation to Picador re my piston slap. Still sounds like a bag of nails on a morning mind!!
Hopefully the gearbox breather, oil temp and frequent hot oil smell from the car as I get out are all connected...and simple to fix because as good as Picador have been, I've definitely had enough of trapesing down to Southampton from Bristol all the time with silly little niggles, its getting worse than my bl
ed Sagaris was!
Saying that, at least it is only niggles with the R8...
