I am considering my next engine mod (finances withstanding)

This is where I am at so far, the car is a VZ CV8:Wortec headers and Wortec cat back

The default choice seems to be supercharge using a PD blower. I can see the appeal in terms of power delivery but it looks as if it's going to be a £6000 hit so I have looked at other blower options. Has anyone used a Vortech blower or knows about the way it delivers the performance.

While at Monkfish they had a yellow 'vette with what looked like a Vortech blower but looked very 'aftermarket' compared with the PD ones but finance is a consideration and from what I can gather it would be a cheaper way of getting more power.

I dont know much about it, though I'm sure many here do. I thought the main decision is where do you want the power concentration, from low/mid-range or higher up. The roots/screw type (ie Harrop) will make good power from low and throughout where as the centrifugal will require more revs to get the boost...but, I believe can deliver higher boost ranges than roots.

Personally whilst I do like to nail the car pretty frequently, I tend to drive off low/mid-range most of the time so the roots/screw type is preferable to the way I drive.

The choice is yours!!

I've had both, car was orginally fitted with a Vortec V2 which was ok but felt more like a turbo the way it comes online where as the harrop give a big kick way down I would always now go for a PD from being in a car with both but I think a lot is down to personal taste

I'm in the same postion, d'not no what to go for. I'm trying wallsjay's ute on wednesday with the Vortech and hopfully the screw type soon. Because I like my trackdays the vortech would be good because of the higher revs used on the tracks, plus with me living in Guernsey, 35mph max speed limit I d'not need the instant power. But I do need to try both driving

What I have at the moment is more than adequate in terms of pulling away and running around at low to mid revs. Basically in terms of driveability it is spot on.

What I am looking for is something that replicates a VTEC/Turbo kick. What I want is to bury the throttle and then at some point mid revs get a massive great kick in the back. I am not getting that at the moment with such a linear power delivery.

Like I said cost is a consideration and the centri types according to Roger are cheaper.

If you dont care for the low-mid-range and want the turbo-esque spool up and surge in the upper end, I'd imagine you'd want to go centrifugal.

I'm sure Roger can talk you through any other pros/cons.

I'm waiting to hear what Wortec are coming out with over the next few months as an alternative to Harrops HTV2300 (crazy money!) before I decide what to do about my next power project.

I'm assuming you meant you'd prefer roots (the harrop) style sc, or did I totally read that wrong!?

Mark at Rapid GB has fitted both types - he also almost certainly will have the power/torque curves for cars that he has put on his dyno, together with his demo fitted with a Roots type blower. You will be able to accurately assess exactly what you get from each that way. I've got a Magnacharger and the torque is there from 2000+ right through. Doesn't have the VTEC kick at high(er)revs, but the power is awesome. Have to ask, though, why would you not want instant power, yes I know, horse for courses, etc. Must be worth at least a phone call to Mark though.

If you like the power delivery of a turbo, why not consider one?

think I'm right in saying Rapid do a magnacharger for the ls1 for under 5k, not sure if thats a 6psi or 9psi kit. Or if you're not afraid of spanners you could import one yourself for around 4k all in, comes with everything you need including a base tune to get you started. Instructions are available online for install if you want to look before you buy, its not that big a deal to install - soldering iron, socket set and torque wrench is all you need.

I hope he doesn't mind me saying this but Mark is also building a twin supercharged conversion with both PD and centri blowers. The PD for torque and the centri for power.

For the road I'd say go with a PD. When the belt's not slipping on mine it's mental. Should be good for 600+ WHP very soon.

ok, cool. Torque is the way to go on these cars, a PD will give you a kick in the back from 2k rpm through to 5.5k rpm which is what you need on the road. I have a maggie 122 and it gives all the performance you could ask for.

One guy called wait4me who posts on the ls1 forum claims 850 rwhp using the same blower on a 454 lsx. They can make very good hp but like all applications they need decent heads and a cam to really perform.

Correct. No point having a large shed if the doors and windows are too small to get anything in it smile
Sort out the entry and exit points and all will be well, blown or not.
