Got back from holidays after having the ute in getting dual exhaust and a new exhaust fitted and extractors fitted. All I can say is WOW, didn't know it had it in her. Performance wise, I think it has picked up another 50+ bhp. It was never easy to get the ute to fishtail when you were planting your foot, but now, it is dead easy. Definitely a modification over standard that is for sure. Got it made up here in newcastle by AAS, £700 for the extractors, and another £400 for the dual exhaust system. Definitely worth the money that is for sure.

Will try and take some pictures today and put them up.

Extractors = Headers = exhaust manifolds to us Brits.

Yeah but specifically extractors would be fabricated from tubular steel, and designed to optimise performance by "extracting" the burnt gasses from the head.

Ah, righto...gotta ya now, thanks guys! Mine has tubular stainless steel Defilippo headers (or so the previous owner told me...'stainless from front to back'!)

That's blardy cheap. I thought a set of headers were more like £2000!

I remember the sight of you trying to get low enough on the ground to see them...laugh...the cars quite low even though the suspension hasn't been touched!

headers - what size did you go for.. 1 3/4", 1 7/8" and was it a 2.5" or 3" exhaust? More importantly did they make up a template so they could run off more or would it be a custom job for each customer?

The hardest part is getting them all the same length so the exhaust gas from one cylinder doesn't interfere with the others.
Here's a nice pic (if you like engine porn) from a 3L F1 cosworth V10

The guy who fabricates them is one of those "old masters" who kinda looks at a design once, scratches chin and just plays with a pipe bender for a bit and et voila.

Just a note I can verify AAS's work in Newcastle, have used them for years and they have always done a very very good job of everything they have done for me, they design everything themselves and make it all in house and are a very good price to boot as you can probably tell.

Im sure they will have kept the designs so can run more off, was hoping to be the first on here to get them done by AAS but the cars still under warranty so have been beat to it!

Did you get CAT's in the system aswell?

Went for a 2.5" system all the way through. Not running any cats at the moment, but they will be going in on the 11 June. Not sure if they kept the design, but think they most probably would have, or can fabricate it pretty quick. I was pretty gob smacked at how much difference it made to be honest. Feel like a totally different car.

S11lmx - should be ok, not sure at the moment how the mrs feels. Might drop over for one beer. Got loads to do around the house at the moment, and the mrs is on the war hammer to get stuff sorted out, like packing away all our lego and stuff...

if the lego is getting packed away does that mean you have a new occupant for the spare room on the way??

Yeah, the mrs is 13 weeks up the duff now.... so have to pack up the spare room. Also means that I am not allowed to go to Bathurst either this year, so am absolutely guttered....

Has it made much difference to the noise then!? How easy have they done the system to fit the cats in when needed?

Well, noise is a little different now.. if not as loud as it was with a straight through. Got 2 little mufflers at the back now, but mind you it is still pretty loud. Does sound pretty awesome now though, so pretty impressed with it. Do like the look of the dual exhaust, which is what I went for in the first place. The extractors were a secondary thought for me, but definitely glad that I did them.

yeah, as I was away, they weren't too sure as to whether I wanted Cats or not, but talking to them, they said it wasn't going to be a problem to put them on. Problem is as the car is so low that you can't put a finger underneath the car, going to have to reposition them from where they are normally, as will be going the sports cats, and they are round not flat like the exisiting ones. Got the cylinder ones on the monaro, and well, they scrape enough as it is, and the ute is much lower than it is. Where they are going to put them I think is just where they kink to come down, so might end up with a bit more heat in the engine bay, but not sure. Otherwise they would go where they were before, but that would mean that it is way too low to get away with it.
