it's fast, don't get me wrong, but nothing happens with much much drama, ie gear changes are every month as apposed to every few seconds,800-7000 rpm sometimes gets me to the local shop in one gear... etc etc...
And this is after not having driven it for a week!
Do S/C'd still feel lazy albeit a lot quicker, or do I just need to sort the diff for the right one as apposed to changing the ratios of the box (05 CV8)

Box is better but diff is easier.

Oh yea I forgot - more power equals lazier... apart from having to move the steering wheel quicker! tongue out

Diff or supercharger will make a big impact. With a focus Pac and a diff you will have a quick car. Upto 100mph there wont be that much in it, but after that the supercharged car will walk away into the distance.

A big squirt of the Laughing gas will liven her up if you want a distinct power band.

unless you really want a 1/4 mile hero car I personally think you can just go too far and ruin the car with power

Not sure thats quite true. What you can do however is have that power delivered in an unusable manner. That will ruin it.

Did that to my old dolomite sprint, rally cam, twin 45 webers, uprated clutch etc etc etc. Was fast but was a pain to drive. Clutch to heavy, stank of fuel (webers!), idled like a pig, cut out on extended idling, all the usual really.

The key is how you go about it.

Not interested in 1/4 mile, but as I said in the first post, I want a more "lively" car to drive, I suppose although having owned the ro for 2 years now, I still have a yearning for free/high revving engines.

Suppose could wap the mrs' car for a Vetec variant.......?

Or time to start saving for that diff methinks.....

the car is never, in a million years, going to give you the same effect as a high revving 9000 rpm monster. Its just not desgiend or built that way. I am sure you could do a lot of mods, stroke it etc, cam the diff but it will always be a relatively low rev rush.

I'd suggest swapping the missus' car for something v-tec wink

Plenty of LSx engines run 9000 rpm.
Not cheaply mind, but its definately possible. Lightweight components, forged etc.
I think Id rather have 5.7L at 9000rpm than 2L Stickmund

I find it's easy to forget how quickly our car's move especially when we potter around at 30 – 70 mph and the tacho’ is at 2500 revs! I need to give mine a quick blast just to remind me what it can do and boy it does bring a smile to my face when I do. Still I can see the attraction of the “more power” brigade and have to say I will be going that way eventually.

If it helps, I have a centrifugal supercharger on my Mustang with around 460hp instead of the stock 300. While the Mustang has a better change than GM products, it's still not electric. A centrifugal blower gives the same sort of response to about 3000 and then takes off like a scalded cat through subsequent gears to the point where you have to fit a shift light as you run out of gear so quickly. Lazy it isn't.

However, the Mustang uses 3.55 rear gears and fitting lower gears would render 1st practically defunct so decide which you want before changing the gears. Lower gears will lower the top speed and increase fuel consumption, a supercharger has the opposite effect.
