Anyone using these with standard VXR brakes? I had them fitted all round a few weeks back, but I'm not getting on with them.

From cold, they are soggy and woolly to the point of being slightly scary. That also applies in town driving where they never get any temperature into them.

Have also tried warming them up with a few high speed slow-downs, then going for a full stop. They're odd - they do work better when warm, but if you brake to a virtual standstill, they're reasonably progressive but at the last minute, at about 5-10mph, they suddenly grab very hard and kind of jerk you to a final stop.

Would welcome other views. Can't afford APs. and in any case this car is a daily drive so they're possibly not appropriate (I've heard - in terms of maintenance required?). I'm off on a 2000+ mile road trip around Europe next Fri and could do with brakes I trust!!

Am at MoFi next week so will have them checked then but just wanted to know what anyone else found?

Got no experiance with Stock VXR brakes but on other cars the only pads I would fit a Pagid (spelling?), brill cold and when on track! Not cheap mind.

sounds similar to what I experience but I suspect its more to do with the hoses than anything else. I fitted them with a set of VXR brakes to my 04 CV8 hoping for a big improvement only to find it very spongy and uninspiring. Indeed I find I have to "pump" the pedal a couple of times before setting off. Its either the rubber hoses expanding or as I have seen mentioned elsewhere there's air trapped at the front of master cyclinder and I need to bleed it again. I doubt its actually the pads at fault as there are plenty on here using them with no problems.

How many miles have you done. As they were fitted to old discs, they will take a good 200 miles or so bed in fully.

Hi Roger, have done a fair bit more than that now, although I do cover a lot of motorway miles, but I would have thought they would be bedded in by now. I'd expected them to be soft to start with. Just wondered how other people found them or whether it was just me - anyway, as above, I'm up on Monday so we can see what you think then.

Generally no problems here, (although mine is the 05 CV8 - slightly better than 04 CV8 and slightly worse than VXRs....)
Sometimes they don't grip quite as I would expect, but then again there are times when they lock up and am pleasantly surprised.
Overall though for what they are - an improved pad for standard discs and calipers, they should offer an improvement over standard, especially for minimal material transfer (high spotting/warped disc syndrome)

I left a set of standard brakes in the shed while I was running the car on APs and they got damp from condensation, when I refitted the standard brakes/PF pads they were hopeless, stopping power was akin to having drums all round. Fortunately the chap who bought the car wanted the APs so it wasn't an issue.
But a word of warning if you are storing brakes while off the car put them somewhere warm and dry..

Well, clean bill of health from the fishy people today on all fronts, including the brakes. They do seem to be improving - seems like the combination of PF pads on existing disks just takes a long time to bed in, and they're definitely better with some heat in them anyway.

Although brake feel was sh1te, the standard VXR brakes with PF pads did repeatedly stop me without complaint from ~160MPH at VMAX. No fade, no worries and I wasn't using full braking effort.
