Does anyone have aftermarket 18's on their monaro. I've got ap's so the gap is very close and it looks like they have touched. Does anyone have any know of any light but strong 18" alloys that would give me a little bit more room?

oh yeah is it wise to go a bit wider on the back to get better traction?

I started a thread on the very same subject a while back. Have a browse and see if you can find what you need. I find that there isn't a great deal of choice due to the clearance of the AP's.

What did you go for?

I was thinking of looking into rotas, or team dynamics. I just need an extra few mm to allow the brakes to expand when they gets hot.

I may have found some wheels that fit, team dynamics pro race 1.2s. I am awaiting a call back from an alloy wheel supplier to confim the fitment. The team dynamics wheels should give me approx 7-8mm extra caliper clearance and weigh around 20lbs. I think but i could be wrong that the standard cv8 wheels weigh approx 38lbs. The cars red so i think matt black wheels with a red lip should go okay.

18" wheels are fine over APs but you must be careful where they put the balance weights at the fitters. You could also consider some VXR 19" wheels which look quite nice. For traction I'm getting a torque damper fitted this week with the new pullies etc. I'll let you know what difference it makes.

Oh yeah i will make sure that the balance weights dont catch the aps. Dont want that now do i. I will also remove the disk guards fully as ive only bent them out the way at the moment and will try and run some ducting in to keep them cool, to reduce the rate expansion when hot.

Well after one team dynamics supplier said no, ive found one that has said he can get the wheels i want. The question i have is will a 9" wide wheel with a 35 offset and a 255 tyre fit on the back of a ro without rubbing? Is it the same as a 9.5 wide alloy with a 45 offset?

id say a 9 inch will fit no probs I'm running 255 on the rear on standard rims and there's loads of room let us know how you get on cos I'm after other wheel options

This may not answer your question on sizes that will fit without rolling the arches or mini tubing, however there are pictures of over 200 different wheel styles on the USA Monaro (GTO) some with further info on widths etc
From what I have read 9.5” rears need rolled arches especially if you use the maximum width tyres for that width rims.

Well i i have found out that the team dynamics pro race 1.2s will fit if i stick to 8" wide, i don't think 9" will fit due to the max offset being 35mm. I've been in touch with Driftworks and they have said that Rota torques or Rota drifts will fit if i stick to 8.5" wide. I'm just waiting for driftworks to get back to me on prices. I've seen alot of people in America running CSL reps so i may look into that more but i think a 9.5" rear is pushing it without rolling the arches.

wheels here

www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_packages.jsp?req=newCar&carYear=2005&carMake=Pontiac&carModel=GTO

and try this

www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp

wheel/tyre/off set comparison. put your oem wheel in the first and your new one in the second...... will show the differences in the measurements, then get your tape measure out and have a look under your motor.....

Just an update after playing with my mates team dynamics alloys off his leon, i've ordered some team dynamics pro race 1.2s 18" x 8 with a 40 offset. This should clear the front of calipers, and will give some extra room to the calipers on the inner rim. I now just have to wait 5 weeks for them to arrive, but the alloys will save 7kg per corner. I will post some photos when they arrive and are on the car. Thanks for help everyone thumbup

Anything you can save on unsprung weight (and rotating weight) makes a significant contributuion to handling and performance. Multiply that 28kgs by about 16 to get the effective advantage IIRC.

And yes those 18" CV8 wheels are apallingly heavy. I have them on mine for track use and I just know they are holding me back.

Don't forget though that the lighter rims may buckle easier if you hit potholes etc. So be careful with them.

9" will go on the back no problem with the right offset, 9.5 will also go but you may just catch the otter lip, 10" will go but you need to lose the outter lip alot! Note the 10" rims sit spot in the middle - eg clearence on the inside and outside with a 45 offset. Do the math backwards if you want the offsets for narrow rims.

Been there done all this already.

i was thinking about going for 8.5 front and 9.5 rear 18" csl reps but the manufacturer in america wasn't sure if they would clear the ap's so i didn't want to order a set of alloys that would not fit.
