How does the alarm work ??
Discussion
Got a query about the alarm.
If I unlock the car using one of the remotes then everythings fine, if I unlock it using the key (same key fob as earlier) then the alarm goes off (using the normal car horn tone). If I lock the doors again with the remote and then unlock again and then get in the dash displays a warning saying that the drivers door was opened. This all sounds fine and I guess is how it should be ??
I would have thought that maybe using the key would disable the alarm as well as what happens when the battery runs out in the key fob ?
Now, when I use the other key fob and unlock it remotely, when I open the drivers door another alarm goes off - a higher pitched alarm (it has an after market Cobra alarm system) so this reacts differently compared to the above. Even if I lock it again remotely and unlock it the alarm remains on for a while before it goes off. Its as though the second key doesn't switch off the Cobra alarm but does unlock the doors.
I know its an aftermarket system so you may not be able to help but does it sound like the second key needs to be programmed ? If so, should this be done by a Cobra/alarm specialist or a dreaded Vauxhall dealer ?
Any advice appreciated.

I assume the second remote is the Cobra Alarm remote?

Well, I'm not sure !! That would mean depending on which key fob I pick up i'll be arming/disarming different alarms which would seem odd ??Cheers,
MC.
If the second one is the cobra alarm then its still not working as when I unlock it remotely and open the drivers door it goes off !!

Sorry didn't phrase my question terribly clearly, what i meant was, are both of the key fobs you use the standard ones that come with the car?If the second one is the cobra alarm then its still not working as when I unlock it remotely and open the drivers door it goes off !!

I may have missed something, but you are only ever using one system to lock and un-lock the car right? You must not lock with the key, and un-lock with the Cobra fob or vice-versa, as they're using entirely different systems.
There are no problems with after market alarm systems, and for an insurance company that demands Thatcham Cat 1 there's no other way around it, AS LONG AS THEY'RE FITTED CORRECTLY!
I have a Clifford system on mine, and you either use the car system (key), OR the fob for the after market system, but never mix by using one to lock, and the other to un-lock.

I am only ever using one way to lock/unlock the car its just that IF i use the second key fob to do it it works in a different way to the first.
I can obviously happily continue to use the first key fob as it works fine just worried about when I need to use the second and it has different characteristics.
Off to an alarm installer I think.........

Hi the alarm was fitted by a reputable dealer. The 2 key fobs you are refering to are both monaro key fobs, Only one key is synchronised to the Cobra alarm the other key was always kept as a spare. The reason for installation was to satisfy the Thatcham alarm situation and gained a significant reduction on insurance premiums.

The cobra sync'd key does not seem to operate correctly at the moment as when I lock the key with the remote and then unlock it and open the door the alarm goes off - maybe the battery is just going flat in the remote. I'll replace and see how I go.
