My Ro has run a rear wheel bearing under warrantee so called my local Vauxhall Agent in Evesham and asked if they could possibly fix it even though it it a Monaro. Yes, happy to, even got the tools! Oh sorry Vauxhall will not allow us to! You have to use a Monaro Agent! We said we were happy to fix it but Vauxhall said no!

So I called nearest Monaro agent in Wantage Oxfordshire. Can you fix it? Yes!

OK if I run it over at 8.00am on a Saturday to save me taking a whole day off in the week and having to stooge around a town 40 miles from home for ages, can you do it?

No! Why? Well it is a 1 1/2 hour job. What? You have five hours on a Saturday morning. Well we cannot do it, we might get another job come in urgently. What? How about I book it for three or four weeks time so you can plan to do it in five hours? NO!!!!!!!!!!!

But that will cost me a whole day, 80 miles of fuel and I have to stooge around Wantage until you finish mucking about! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wheel bearing cant be that hard surely, one of the first things I learned to do on my old MK2 escort and it was a 15-20min job, done it on several cars since. Only thing you had to watch for was to avoid getting any crud off the hub/discs in the grease that was used to pack the bearing in place. Haven't looked at manual but are there special tools needed on the 'ro to get the old one out?

I have changed them myself in the past with no problems but a little shy of doing it on a Monaro 500 with all that torque! One small mistake and there could be a big problem!

would you really have that much more confidence in your average Vauxhall dealer mechanic apprentice than your own ability to do it properly?

www.hsv.org.uk/topic.asp?t=687549&f=69&h=27 - for example of trained dealer work.....

Well! that is supposed to be Vauxhalls point, I suppose. Only Monaro rated Agents can do the work and they are supposed to be fully trained! oh! a flying pig went by!

My main "bone" is why should I pay for their failure?

I would (am going to) forge, on forged headed note paper, a forged letter from a forged monaro dealer, at least 180 miles away, that there is a reecall on said monaro and, show it to my wife, take the day offf anyway. Drive said monaro 360 miles and have a whale of a time in the process, getting said wheel bearing done in the process, some where on the way. I live in north wales and bought the car from Brighton. I'm looking forward to that recall on my car soon..... oh and yes, I have been drinking.
