I'm absolutely loving the sound of the VXR8 Wortec Carbon Edition at the minute

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BY6imlJ82VE

Now, it seems this particular car is a bit on rare side, so buying one second hand isnt going to be easy. So im thinking about how easy it would be to make your own.

Ive read on the net that the wortec supercharger is apparently better, as its based on the Eaton 122 supercharger and that walkinshaw uses the 112.

But quick check on the walkinshaw website shows it offers the 122 supercharger also.

To get that lovely supercharger noise, and 600 + hp, do you need the wortec supercharger, or are they all the same ?

also looking at this

http://www.pistonheads.com/SALES/964361.htm

it appears to be a stonking buy, as its already got the supercharger fitted and the walkinshaw 20 inch rims (about 10ks worth of extras) for the same price as the other VXR8s on the market ! But its another one ive not heard of. PWR magnacharger ? ?

So question is 1) will it sound the same as the wortec and 2) will it produce 630bhp also with wortecs exhaust and induction kit ?

help please ? as im confused smile

Colour is not my cupa T... others may like it though.

As for SC Im sure someone knowledgable will be along shortly. Mines got the 122 which is basically a larger variant of the 112 and capable of blowing its way past 600hp easy. smile

As you say the "Carbon Edition" is rare, as we only produced 12 cars and one of those apparently went to an overseas collection.

We have only supplied the Harrop 122 charger on our conversions for R8 as the 112 is a little small for 6.0/6.2ltr engines WP supplied both
PWR and Harrop units in the 112 size before they upgraded to the same size units as us.

Without the 122 you won't get over 600hp...

The components we add to the Harrop charger along with our unique exhaust system provides the sound so without those parts it
won't sound the same.

We have now released the R8 headers and cats so you can now make lots of noise!!!

Give one of our dealers a call and get them to find you a standard car then add the Carbon upgrade pac.......

To all intents and purposes the guts of the harrop, magnusson and pwr are the same eaton parts.
Being as you guys note the 122 or the 112 rotors. Or more recently the TVS1900 or TSV2300 5th gen ones.
So your best bet is to look for a 122 or TVS setup with the exhaust tone you are after.
If you want a Wortec Carbon just keep your eye out.
As you note however its possible to build one yourself to the same spec. It just wont be a Wortec smile

that car is currently being sold for a customer of RapidGB and I believe it may have been Mark that fitted that PWR charger to it, give him or Nicola a call for more details.

Remember that all the "Carbon" consists of is a standard VXR8 that Wortec added a collection of parts to from their catalogue and sold as a bundle. Theres nothing to stop you buying a stock car and surpassing the performance of the "Carbon" by careful selection of your own mod package - you could call it a "Diamond", be just as relevant in the future when it came time to sell it on. Plenty options when it comes to spending money on upgrades - Walkinshaw/Wortec/Monkfish/RapidGB all happy to empty your wallet and transform standard car to your needs.

I must say the Walkinshaw Exhaust System sounds like a true V8 and doesn't give you a droon from the rear seats......also for everyones information the PWR Supercharger kit that is fitted to our clients car that is for sale on Pistonheads is running only at 7psi and can easily been turned up to 10psi with a high boost kit, once remapped on our dyno this will achieve over 650bhp easily!!!!

We also have now available the TVS 1900 and 2300 5th gen blower kits for the Monaro LS1/LS2 Holden VT2, VXR8 LS2/LS3. AEF Cold Air Intakes for VXR8 LS2/LS3.

Cheers

Well not exactly the same spec, but it would look the same on paper surely?
I understand you guys have some bespoke stuff not available elsewhere. But Im sure other venders sell the same nominal spec parts. Or are you talking about something specific? More details please smile

Second that! Having seen the car, Which to my best memory, is used a a second or even third car by its owner, I would be very tempted at that price, its nearly worth changing a 'ro for (but not mine as I love it too much....)
Got to be worth having a look at, and represents serious savings over doing your own!

True, however PWR blowers are supplied by Magnusson as far as I know and use the same compressor housings. I have a PWR throttle body bolted to the front of my MP122. Harrop share the same rotors but that's about it.

the supercharger is the most expensive bit so i was hoping to try and save on the cost and buy a car with one fitted already. To make it sound like the wortec, it will obviously need exhaust, induction kit and headers, but even all of those put together are nowhere near the cost of the supercharger.

So essentially, any 122 harrop based supercharger (i'll pass on the politics of walkinshaw having swapped to the same as you biggrin ) will give the same desired 600 + bhp and noise (with the wortec headers and exhaust) ?

or are not all superchargers created equal, S/C is a new thing for me, so bear with me smile

any 122-based supercharger (maggie/pwr,harrop) bolted to a 6.0 LS2 with headers and exhaust should give around 600hp at the flywheel.

However, this only tells part of the story, add a cam, ported heads and forged internals and that figure rises to 800hp and beyond. The supercharger is a bolt on power adder but it's what you bolt it to that counts.

Madmunky, has a 122 on an ls2 with cam and his puts out 700hp. These engines love to breathe!
