With 10 miles of my journey left the comp. said 0 miles to empty. Have now done the 10 miles and a bit more without refilling.

Have never managed to put more than 69 litres in but have always felt that the true capacity is probably 73 litres, but no one seems able to confirm if this is correct.

Clarkson managed about 40 more in his A8 diesel after that had said 0 so will I get the same (though I guess I won't take the chance)?

I know i may sound boring but isn't that like really bad for the car? I know its good to have fresh fuel as it does loose octanes over time but i'd never run the car to empty.

As far as I've always been aware it drags old sediment from the bottom of the fuel tank. Is that wrong?

Looked inside a few fuel tanks they have always been spotlessly clean, not sure where all this sediment is meant to come from that ppl always say, not like pour dust and little stones in it every time refuel lol

Managed to squeeze in 70.44 litres. Distance to empty said 440 miles - nay bad for a 5.7L monster.

The pick-up pipe is in a fixed position that always sucks the fuel from the bottom of the tank, no matter if the tank is full/empty or anything in-between.
It sounds plausible that sediment will be sucked up if the tank gets empty but is just another Urban Myth, AKA ("also known as" hehe couldn't resist) bocensoredocks.

As reported already, tanks tend to be spotlessly clean inside and filters "do what it says on the box".

I think they must now build in an "idiot" factor so that those of us idiots that do actually take it to 0 actually can make it to the next stop wink

Exactly...its magical dirt that gets inside all these tanks !!!

However...when the fuel pump relies on being surrounded by fuel to keep it cool, running it in a dry environment, wont do it any favours.
