Wheres the best place to buy a lid mainly for track days? With shakey's drag day coming up and the performance vauxhall show, i thought i'd invest in one instead of trying to borrow one. I may also do some more trackdays later in the year aswell. I don't want to spend mega money as its something that will only get used probably 4-5 times a year, and i was thinking open face.

thanks

Don't know about hiring helmets there but when I did Brands it was 10 quid I think. Don't need to many of those and you've got a decent enough helmet I reckon.

Wasn't being rude earlier just meant must as well buy a decent if you can.

I bought one which cost me a hundred quid I think, maybe I should have spent a bit more as I had an open top car made of plastic hehe

Go to a motorcycle shop that sells trials bikes, you can buy some really light open face lids for less than a a ton. Good is less than 1000g

no problems, i knew it was a joke I was thinking of spending upto £150 openface, but wanted to know where i could have a look and try them on to get the size. Would a bike place be a good place to go?

Be careful with buying bike lids as all race events and even some track days now insist on a helmet with the correct Snell safety standard. Which bike lids don't have.
I recently had to fork out not an insignificant amount of money on an Arai car helmet to replace my bike lid in order to attend a few test days and a couple of sprint events.

Depends what you are using it for, but be careful you don't waste your money.

so long as it is acu gold approved, or is it just requires ACU stamp these days?

sorry but is this really correct? For years it was a case of requiring ACU Gold approval to enable use on track. Snell wasnt recognised in the UK at the time and I doubt that snells is the requirement now.

We don't have any particular standards on here, so one of these might do?

It has changed in the last year or so. It is now predominently the case that you need a helmet that is MSA recognised, so either BS 6658 type A or Snell SA2000. Bike helmets don't have these type approvals. Pretty sure Silverstone for example insist on MSA approved lids to be used on the track.

My Arai RX7RR has BS6658 type A.

I think the PH article looks like a good source of information.

I just went into my local Mototrbike place to look at helmets
The man said non of the gold approved(or something) ones are fire resistant and that they would probably need to be for drag racing. Any ideas.
BTW i found a lovely silver, pink and grey one with pretty stuff on but it was £250 yikes
ETA Look what i just found on flea baybounce I love that
