I was wondering if anyone has uprated their current Monaro HiFi? I want to keep the original head unit as I don't believe it's that bad and want to keep the car looking original. I'm thinking of getting all the speakers replaced with quality items and maybe adding some amps. Anyone already done this?

LOL - Ive sort of done this but have yet to get a new head unit. Replaced all the speakers and put larger "sub" types in the rear side panels (dont try to get sub types in the rear shelf as they wont go!), changed the wiring and have 3 400watt amps mounted on a carpeted board in the boot, 1 running each pair of speakers. The only way to really do it is to strip the interior like I did!

Wormus why don't you want to listen to your new stroked v8 soundtrack?
Mine gets very little play, but when it does it really is pants. no rds, no traffic, sounds like it's playing through a yoghurt pot imho......
to get a decent sound I would replace the headset with the best you can afford and go from there - there may not even be a need for seperate amps etc if your head unit is good enough.... but do invest in a hefty bass amp/sub that can be hidden or custon fit into existing apertures....will add volume and put less strain on the rest of the system resulting in a clearer, richer sound.

I must admit I haven't driven it any real distance for 6 months so the priority is to just drive it when I get it back. Just wondering what others have done and I'm also worried that a bling new head unit will attract thieves?

I would start by changing the head unit then go from their, music is only as good as the source it comes from.

Hi Simon,

Check out the bottle of the FAQ - www.hsv.org.uk/topic.asp?h=27&f=69&t=291906

Basically a normal ISO double din stereo with a replacement surround. Had my double din JVC and full set of Infinity Kappa speakers in for about 2 and 3/4 years. But for a quick fix turn up the bass amp in the rear quarter panel (if someone has not already). Only thing I did not change was the subs as Holden decided to stick my rear shelf to the window sealant and did not fancy cutting it out.

Cheers
Steven

laugh Thank you !! That saved me p*ssing around !! thumbup

I've also done a bit of rust proofing over the weekend - it was spot on underneath !! Looked really good so you were right when you said you never took it out in the winter or the rain !! Its first class underneath thumbup

Thank you for looking after it, the more I look around/in it I realise it really is a first class car.
