So.... i'm 23. I drive a Focus RS which, don't get me wrong, is brilliant. I have however this strange need to constantly be looking for a new car.

While looking for the Focus I noticed Monaro prices were a few K more but now i've had the focus for a few months, saved up a bit more and i'm getting towards being able to afford a monaro.

There's also the idea of a VXR8 from a dealer, assuming i'll want to change in a similarly short time so could get a very short finance deal, or something.. i've not researched that route yet.

My question is.. am I dreaming? I've got 5 years NCB but being 23 insurance is still a problem. The best i've come out with (from a very limited search) is about £1200-1500 from confused.com but there must be better deals out there. I really don't ever want to have to pay over £1k for insurance.

Are there any owners as young as me? Can anyone offer me any advice? Perhaps if I speak with an Aussie accent on the phone to insurance companies that could help?

A-plan, Adrian Flux...off the top of my head. I'm sure others will offer alternatives too. Good luck smile

Im 22, i got the car a week before my 22 birthday. My insurance is £1650 with bell.com and that includes mods. My car is a 2004 cv8 with wortec sport pac, ap brakes and ripshifter, but other than insurance the isnt that bad to run. A have a cousin with a 53 plate golf r32 and Im using as much fuel around town as him but my fuel economy on the motorway is better. The noise with an aftermarket exhaust makes it all worth it.

I am 25yo with 5YNCB and no points - I have a 2005 Monaro VXR - 500 specification.

Costs me a little under £800 a year fully comp to insure. That is limited mileage of 5k miles a year though.

And I do have another daily drive vehicle - diesel van - for work, etc - bulk of my miles a year.

If it's not your main car you might be able to get a limited mileage policy to bring the costs down a smidge. At your age I had a 911 so it's doable!

Try Admiral Insurance, they have been cheapest for me for last few years on various cars, although I am an old f**t I am told they are age friendly.

Greenlight:

  • We are unable to quote this group vehicle for drivers under the age of 25 if the value is over £17,000**
That was the VXR8.

Hmmmm. I'm wondering how similar an XKR would be actually.
