I have been offered an excellent deal on a new VXR8 (£27k) or a Bathurst for £30k (adj suspension, brake upgrades, stripes)
or a Bathurst S with supercharger and 560bhp for (£37k) - which of those options is the best value for money and which would be easiest and least painful to sell on in a year on two?

I presume the official VXR500 Monaro's are still pretty rare and make good money? Also White or Black

I was recommended to stay away from bathurst unless I wanted to take it to track days on a regular basis, enhanced brakes and suspension are tailored more for that. Buy the base model at 27k and spend 3k on exhaust, headers, handling kit - bushes etc

supension is Tein (sp) so about £700 brakes are only calipers so no real benifit and a few dodgie badges oh and no upgraded exhaust

Only wheels worth getting and they are poping up alot on ebay

Get the standard car at the bargine price and add the right bits

Me, id buy a standard one and mod it from there. Which is what i did, albeit in Maloo form. Currently got Monkfish Cam pack, (inc full switching wortec exhaust) Pedders Coilovers and road response pac and some very large wheels. But im not too concerned about resale value, unlike the original poster. Doubt i'll be selling it soon.

If you want to and can drive the car hard enough then you'll understand why the brakes make sense, there's no fade like the standard ones and if anything the harder you work them, the better they get, standard brakes can be cooked pretty easy, been there and done it.

The badges are well, personally choice, leave them if they're not your bag.

Wheels are bling, so if you like that sort of thing...

It is a standard car with the right bits, that's the point, pretty much the same price or less than a standard car with those bits, so if you're going to pay up in the end for all the mods just cut out the waiting and get the car you would have ended up with to start with.

Great sales pitch then, in this current sales climate. " This is our best car , but don't buy it, unless you do regular track days "

roger said its not got wortec exhurst ..but sir jeremy (made lots of us by a monaro) clarkson said in his review that exhurst noise was like a small war happening in the back box ?? so something must be done to exhurst ???

The 'Bathursts' are produced by TWR - the exhaust upgrades are theirs not Wortec.

I know I'm stating the bleeding obvious Benno, but I would have thought a 1 year old one at circa 20 grand would be even better option? That's a hell of a lot of spare modding cash left over.

The S/C version sounds good value. A stock one at 27k would require more than 10k to get it the same level (S/C £7500 plus suspension mods at £2500 odd and exhaust again being some £2500). Adding the wheels putts the stock one well over 37k.

IMO if you intend to sell the car next year there are better choices out there.

I'd buy the VXR8 carbon which is currently in the classifieds. It should tick most of the boxes and looks good value.

Or if you were happy with an almost 2 year old 26k mile black one you could have my old Wortec Carbon Edition for £26-28K depending what deal you can strike.

All the Wortec Carbon spec, 635bhp, it has a custom twin charge cooler, wortec electronically switchable exhaust, 20" black alloys etc etc.

On top of the Carbon edition, 2 months ago I spent another £2.7K with Roger (Monkfish) to put on the Pedders Extreme X fully adjustable suspension and road response pack (polyurethane bushes) and Picador for a light tint all round.

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1074652.htm

You may want to buy a new one of course, or buy the car yourself and do the customising, but for what you get, I reckon my old car will be one of the best VXR8 packages you can get for the money at present.

so many choices, will need to have a think through

on the face of it £27k for a new one is potentially better value than the £23k being asked for most of the 2yr old cars

ditto £37k seems like a steal for an official factory car with 570bhp and a 3yr warranty - being an official model will make insurance easier presumably??

So you have the same discs the same pads and the same swept area only 2 more pistons acting on that pad and you have less fade???? maybe your origional setup was broken before the upgrade? it is possible as you have an auto!

If you want brakes - upgrade rotor size and for that you need 20" rims

Getting the Right mods is the main factor and the Bathurst ones are not right
