Not driven the 'Ro for a fortnight......
Discussion
...and weirdly not missed it.
Changed jobs recently with the downturn in employment in my industry, so stopped doing the mega miles on the Ro and do local mileage on the Zaf....
Thing is, if I continue to do what I am doing the Ro will only get used for fun at weekends or the occasional trip to relatives... bit worried it's going to deteriorate by not being driven and I'm paying a price to keep it insured and taxed when its only driven occsionally.
I'm not selling it, Full Stop, but wondered how many others now just use theirs for weekend fun? Seems a bit excessive to me......?
I walk to work so only get to drive it weekends or sometimes every other weekend.
Its odd, you think you can afford to have something different (more thirsty, more insurance, etc) as you're not going to drive it as much, but then you don't get the pleausre out of it cos you don't need a car during the week.
Catch 22 sometimes.
Anyway, came home from the pub early as I'm driving the 'Roo tomorrow

Mines a weekend only car (normally) and Im quite happy with that. Saves fuel, damage from stones on the road and other careless people hitting it when parked up. It is a waste but so is drinking then pissing it up against a wall, smoking etc etc. You only live once and its nice to know I have a very fast very clean car which I can use when I choose to and generally speaking its gonna stay that way alot longer than a daily user.
Only ever use mine at weekends. If I had to commute in my own, I would still use another vehicle because of cost. Thing is during the week I lust after driving it, so i'll probably never get bored of it. Mine sits on the road all week, rain, wind or shine. I Check the usual gubbins before weekend use specially my tyre pressures, oil and water then i try to drive as much as poss on saturday and sunday so the old girl gets a good workout. £30-£40 for fuel. Lovely. Wash and wax twice a month. Limited use makes it more special. Also mileage will be lower IF it gets sold. Fantastic Cars

Mines done 300 miles in over 6 weeks, almost never gets used at the minute and all seems fine, although it is always garaged and never used in the wet, just leave a trickle charger thing on it!
Battery conditioner James??? Mind im the same as after shock, only use mine on sunny weekends, the rest of the time its spends under a red cover to match the colour of the car that no body can see as its in my garage, o and mine is also hooked up to a battery conditioner
I use my motorbike to get to and from work and the Landrover at the weekends for the family...or the wife's Focus.
It had a particularly hard winter and after nearly crashing several times on ice we bought the Landie. I think I'll get a low mileage policy come renewal time and tax it for summer only from now on. It will also stay garaged but I don't care as I have no plans to sell.

Bit of a weekend warrior here too (27k in 4 years). Some weekends it doesn't even get a look in due to impractical size of boot for wifes' shopping trips and commuting kids to weekend activities etc.
I only live just under a mile away from work so it's Shanks's pony or, if it's p!ssing it down, the works van.
Hate to admit it, but driving the works van (Corsa 'D' Diesel) makes the 'ro feel like a sloppy old barge and it takes a few miles to get used to the clanking drive train, apalling suspension, sloppy steering etc. Actually, it's pretty much the same comparison I used to make when I bought a Mk 3 Escort and kept my Capri 2.8i for weekends.
But I've spent too much (more to come) on it and I still love it despite some minor niggles and hopefully intend to keep it until the government (or should I say Brussels) eventually ban anything over 1000cc....

I pay 400 quid tax and should get more use out of it.
My point exactly.
Thing is I CAN'T use it as a daily driver, its just not practical in any sense. If I could I would! The last 2 years I've put 40k on it, but thats not the issue, its not being able to drive it! Maybe a px for a ute with 3 seats would be the ideal solution.... anyone know how to squeeze an extra seat into a ute?
And I thought I was the only one - my '54 plate VXR will be FIVE in January (registration, not build) and so far she has 7 miles short of 10k on the clock. You do the math on the yearly mileage. Why? Well I used to use her but now I am a consultant and so cannot - my daily has 30k and is only two, so the Monaro tends to be used for the weekends... and maybe only one of those a month. Pointless, yes. A waste, yes - but she's mine so I can do what I like! (sticks tongue out).
