Good morning all, after dreaming about getting a monaro for the last few years, i've finally mortgaged my soul and bought a 2006 5.7.
I have to say i love it, i've done nearly 1000 miles in less than 2 weeks and now wouldn't swop it for anything else.
The only fly in the ointment is the oil pressure gauge. The first week i had the car it read just over 3 bar as an average, then it suddenly decided to read 5+ all the time. Then it took to dropping from 5+ to zero on a regular basis, setting off the check engine warning on the dash, now it just sits on zero all the time.
I'm happy that the engine hasn't got an oil pressure problem and as the car is under network Q i'm sure they'll sort it when i get around to taking it back, i'm just curious to know if this is a common problem with the monaro and if the guilty party is likely to be the gauge itself or the sender unit.
Cheers
Mike

Have you checked the connections to the sender?

I did have a poke about under the bonnet, but couldn't spot anything that looked like the sender and without a workshop manual didn't want to start pulling stuff apart at random.
I know a loose connector is a very likely culprit, if you can give me a clue where the sender is i'll check before i take it back to the dealer.

Ok, just had another peak, think i found the sender, at the back of the block under the servo pipe.
If that is the sender then the connections are fine.

Tallish unit, where you describe, screwed into the block, sticking up.

The sender unit went on mine last year, the oil pressure showed high then the engine fault light came on.

Many thanks for the replies, seems it's a bit of a common weakness on the monaro.
I'll get it back to slaters next week and hope they don't want to keep it too long.
