Least eco-friendly motor
Discussion
The guardian reported that the Dodge Viper has officially been voted as the least green car on sale in the UK – not surprising given its montrous 8277cc truck engine.
The article said it averages 13mpg around town – I only get 15-16 on the shortish journey to work in my tiny 5.7 and that’s driving like a saint (bless you my son).
Only ever seen one on the road* – parked actually – in Bristol. Tasty though in blue with the white stripe. Unfortunately didn’t get the opportunity to listen to it bellow into life. Read an Autocar test where the TVR cerbera 4.2 absolutely creamed it – but I know which one I’d have.
*apparently 90 have been sold in the UK and imports stopped in 2007. But it’s more common than a monaro/vxr though: dodge 1/90, mon/vxr 4/800.

Yeah, sadly I think the days of the uber thirsty glug monsters are very much numbered. We're driving the last of the dinosaurs before they go into extinction.
Manufacturers will have to find a way to make large capacity engines more efficient or they're buggered. No one will buy them and gummints will legislate them out of existence. Sad, but the future I think.

Don't worry, that is what everyone said in 1973 and again early 90's. Some dreadful 'small' US cars ensued (Dodge Aries anyone?)before the market kicked in again. We are just having a periodic slump.
Consumers love high performance motors, and they will continue to get more complex but safer, (far)cleaner, faster and more economical - as they have done for the past 100 years.
Aston for example is selling more cars than it ever did.

I did read about a fleet of Ford V10 engined airport buses running on Hydrogen. Hydrogen's low mass means specific power and torque are low requiring large capacity and/or super charging. No CO2, CO or unburnt hydrocarbons but oxides of nitrogen still a problem. So long term its going to be fuel cells probably with battery buffers.
