% rear windows tint. (Sorry, no power question in sight)
Discussion
I know this isn't a power mod question (long weekend and too much time on the interweb) I've been rather taken with 'perhaps' tinting the rear windows as well as getting my alloys re-done Satin Black.
Anyone got a recommendation as to amount of tint (I think some of you may have done this?) or am I in danger of going overkill on a yellow car?

I went for a light tint (25%) all round (ie A pillar back, so all bar windscreen) on my black VXR8 carbon when I had it. Personally I dont like light front windows with privacy glass from B pillar back, too much for me. I thought light tint all round a perfect balance with a consistent look on the car that wasnt over the top.

Paul - think it might be worth you doing a bit of research on this because I've read somewhere that there is a legal limit as to how dark the tint is & on which windows!
Think it was when Tevez was a Man.U. player...the BiB picked him up for having too dark a tint!
Paul, I think you are unlimited as the % amount of tint on the rears (rear quarters, rear screen). I know front door windows are very limited and the windscreen is a no-no.Think it was when Tevez was a Man.U. player...the BiB picked him up for having too dark a tint!
Just really testing the waters here as to 'tasteful' appearance tweeks without going overboard and shaming the Monaro/VXR8 fraternity on here!
Picadors and the tinting company said the most I'd get away with was 25% all round and that whilst technically we shouldnt have any tint on the front drive/passenger side windows, it was unlikely that I'd get any hassle from the police. My neighbour is a mway policeman and I asked him after I'd had it done and he said he wouldnt pull someone up on it and he doubted any one else would unless they were really pee'd off about something else you were doing....worst case they can ask you to scrape it off!! no big deal.
Saw one of those police programs once and the copper stopped a Range Rover Sport as they had the front side windows tinted. Had done nothing else wrong. Had equipment in the car to test the light going through the window, it failed the test and he tore off bits of the tint there and then !!
Got a yellow car with gloss black wheels and tints at the rear and back.
Looks okay IMO.

What % tint did you go for? I think the one thing that can spoil the tints on the 'ro side quarter windows is the black dot border which can give the impression of a 'line' around the window.
I know a guy that does tints and the "dots" only cause a problem because a lot of places cant be bothered with the hassle of properly gluing the film on over the dotted area so you can end up with "white" circles round the dots causing the line effect you mention. He showed me a couple he'd done - no such problem. Find a good firm and take a look at a couple of cars they've done before parting with cash.
As for tints on front side windows I think you might find the Monaro already has the maximum tint level allowed in the side glass. Some glass comes with the tech info re its tint level etc etched in a corner but its too late and dark for me to be bothered going out to check the ro tonight.

If you go by the links below (print off the 2nd link and keep in your car)you can't go far wrong... I keep a copy of the VOSA guidlines in my glove box just in case i get pulled by jobs worth thats wants to argue the toss that front windows should not be tinted at all... I also make sure that my tints are stated on my certificate of motor insurance for both cars that i have tints on...
