Hello,

Just noticed my rubber weather strips/seals on the rear quarter windows seem to be hardending and going a little rough, almost as though the smooth rubber has come off. In particular the drivers ride rubber nearest the window seems to have gone a little hard and especially on the corners nearest the doors. I think that is a little odd considering I do wash it regularly and do put 303 protectant on it (leather and rubber UV product).

Anyone had anything similar and more to the point to replace the seals does the window need to come out !!

Thanks
Steven

Its alot of work to get the rear windos out trust me. Not difficult but alot of bits come out like the seats, rear side panels, seatbelts etc etc just to get to the bolts around the window on the inside.

Hi S600VXR,

Yes, I do hope it does not involve taking the glass out to replace the rubber. I have already had the please of removing 90% of the interior for sound proofing.

Cheers

Just seems really odd, I would expect a rubber seal designed for Aussie climate to be pretty hardy, but obviously not. Weird

Hopefully will be able to say if the window need removing to replace.

Cheers

I don't think the seal will come out without the glass. I had to have my offside quarterlight replaced - it shattered after getting walloped with a lump of road debris. The new glass came with the seal already attached, and although I cannot remember precisely, I am sure you need access all round the glass to remove the seal. I have a vague recollection that the screw threads built into the glass go through the seal.

However, the Autoglass branch in Cambridge fitted the new glass quickly enough without taking out too much of the interior, although they did have to find a fitter with very small hands!

I wonder if you can even buy the seal without the glass......

Ok, that makes sense, maybe these parts are pre-made and left lying around for a while before they fit them to the cars. So rubber could be a little weathered before they are fitted to the cars.

Thanks
