In case anyone was interested.
From my efilive logs. I only logged about 4 runs.

0-60 best time 4.2 sec
1-2 gear shift, best time 0.39 sec
60mph came up in second gear at 5980 rpm
Shifting into 4th at 4000rpm (peak torque) road speed went from 149kmph to 165kmph before regaining traction and climbing again from 156kmph
At WOT I was down 5kpa from atmospheric (A loss of 5% airflow ~5% power)

Cool! I can break traction at 100mph wink

0-60's impressive Rich, whats your 0-100 time if you have it.

Could someone(possibly Richard) explain to me what you mean by peak torque? Someone said its at around 4500rpm. What does that mean. How come i need to be at about 5700rpm before i need to change up? Is that into the next "power band" (gear) Whats the difference between torque and HP?

hmmmm

K&N drop-in filter and second hole mod and i'm only dropping 1kpa at WOT. Not too bad.....smile How does your OTR compare?

Mel, hp=(rpm*torque)/5252 IIRC smile

Basically torque is what counts, BHP is a function of torque at a certain RPM

You want to shift near max RPM so when you catch the lower gear your torque and power are optimal.
It would depend on your gearing etc. Id listen to Fraser or Mr Crestaracing for where is best in the stock car.

Roger, best 0-100 was 9.02 over the runs I logged.

Oh and peak RPM was 6964rpm smile A screamer!

Hopefully in easy terms...

Torque is best described as the 'push in the back' you feel when you are accelerating. The car isn't at its highest power, but it feels like it is accelerating as hard as it can. Past this point, the car still accelerates (obviously) and generally about 1000rpm past the peak torque the car makes its highest power.
Anything past your highest power, you basically need to change up a gear. If the gearing is correct, then it will drop back down in the revs to just below peak torque where the you have the hardest level of acceleration again.

Its a bit more complicated than that, as Torque and Power are intrinsically linked (rather than being independent) as Rich said, but you get the rough idea.

In case it ever comes up in a pub quiz, the number Rich quoted in the formula above (5250), is the point in every dyno graph where the torque curve and power curve cross each other smile

Not surprised with that 0-100 time.

Perhaps its time for Monkfish to do an exchange program for stroker cammed engines...

What would you estimate for a 6.0 equivilent spec to yours (HP wise).

Mel, You use torque to get yourself thrusting hard through the gears (pound pound pound) and then the engines bhp keeps you spinning at maximum revs to keep your speed nice and high (buzz buzz buzz). Note I used girly talk to assist my explanation. smile

Torque could be used for point and squirt on twisty roads whilst bhp could be used blasting down a runway at full chat when you have no accelleration left.

F1 cars rev their nuts off to produce BHP and a fast top speed but I doubt they could pull a shopping trolley from a standing start as they don't have torque. A ship revs at 150 rpm and can pull a 100'000 tons but very slowly ie no bhp.

Simpleessssssss wink

? Is that a question for me?
Are you asking 0-100 time? That would be similar to Roger's Monaro I suspect, so probably similar 0-100 given he was 0.1 faster over the quarter than me, maybe just under 9 sec?

I logged about 20 different parameters over the run so can measure just about anything or combination thereof. Good for learning and tuning etc.

No mate was wondering what HP figures a 6.0 similar spec to yours would deliver.
(If an exchange system was used it would need to be 6.0, I`m thinking drive in engine swap with your block as an exchange item)

You mean head and cam LS2? Would be a tad over 400rwhp maybe 420.. (ie) VXR500 territory.

A stroked LS2 would be 402 cubes..~480rwhp done all nice. Mine was sleeved and bored.

My cam is only a 230 which is pretty mild. I run cats as well so in theory its designed for emissions compliance. But we will see..

With a spastic cam add more power, but lose the bottom end and driveability. Problem is you run out of RPM before you run out of cam if you go too big.

Ill run it next time, but at SRR I was down 4kpa, so not much different to the stock one, but its better with intake temps however.

I suspect I have a problem with the throttlebody, so will take to it with my dremel! Im hoping a ported throttle with the otrcai gives me back a few kpa.

I'm interested!

I was puzzling over predicting the standing quarter time using a simple model based on constant torque from rest to torque peak in 1st then constant power there after.

I was wondering about the "dead" time during gear changes. Presumably you are through the lights in 4th so loose time during the 1-2, 2-3 and 3-4 shifts. Did you record your 2-3 and 3-4 shift times? This may add up to 1.5 seconds - quiet significant with an overall time of 12.5 or so.

shift times dont play as much a part as you think. You are stilol travelling at xxmph when you shift...its not like you stand stil for that duration.

They will affect trap speed more so than ET, as you arent accelerating. Although from my own logs....rarely am I decellerating either.

Yes of cause the car doesn't stop! So 1 - 2 is the most important, where speed is lowest.

Yeah no deceleration by the looks. Slowest shift was still under 0.5 sec.
Ive been told "powershifting" is best, which means keeping your foot in it and shifting near wide throttle.
I started to do that near the end and got consistent 12's but my best was done in the first half of my runs.

Powershifting can be dangerous.

If you miss a gear, over revving, damage to synchros etc.

I think my shifts usually take around 0.4-0.5 too, which compared to some logs Ive seen o other cars, is quite slow. But the T56 isnt the quickest of boxes.
I dont flat shift....Ive never had the balls to try lol

Think it would be a bit risky with mine though.

I wouldnt power shift on the boxes we have! Its a road car and you will break something being silly like that. I was shifting alot slower than that at a guess if only to make sure the shift was smooth and direct. Probably why you were close to my time Rich.
