I noticed on the drag day some, such as ringram and S600 had nice smooth burn outs, I assume using lockers, whilst Harry and others including myself were using the old left foot braking and see where the car ends up technique, which sometimes worked and sometimes just hopped and axle tramped across the track....
So, what are the pros and cons to getting a line locker installed? Will it stop the tramping when you spin up the wheels? (I think I may have worn a fair amount of pad material off one of the rear brakes! )

Diff and suspension didn't like left foot braking, lots of clunking and tramping.
But, when I got it right, nice smooth burnouts.

Think you`ll find all were Left foot braking.

The secrets to start hard with the power and gentle on the brake. (Hard to do)
If you keep the power on well the brake barely has to be on and the car tells you when the tyres are ready

No line locker here. Or left foot braking for that matter.
Just heel toe action.
Heel on brake, toe on accel, up to around 3500rpm, ease off the clutch and just enough brake to stop it moving forward.
Pretty much no axle tramp. But you need to heft down on both the brake and accelerator quite a bit.
Ease up on brake to let it walk forward when you are ready smile
Stay in the water channel though.

I did get an ABS warning at one point. I think a line locker would axle tramp more as the brake on the rear probably keeps it under some control.

Rich from what I saw your burnouts were quite low rpm, it was all torque

I think the extra weight on the vxr8 keeps any tramp under control, line lock or brake, I think it's about getting the right rpm, so it's about the driver imo.

Once my tyres were warmed up, it became increasingly difficult to break traction cleanly and avoid axle tramp. Axle tramp is very bad if you leave traction control on rolleyes

I think thats because the nearside wheel wasnt spinning as much as the outside one.
The RPM's were certainly up in the 5000 range, so one wheel was spinning ok.. unless it was my clutch yikes

Left foot braking here - no issues and its easy to do. Just remember to monitor how much brake is being used - ie: just enough to hold the car. My rear disks seem unmarked from 9 hard burnouts...
I am looking at a line locker though - just need to find the decent one I saw a while ago.

Not easy to descibe on here but basically you depress the brake, then hold a switch on and releasde the brake. By holding the switch on you stop fluid travel away from the front claipers but allow fluid return from the rear claipers which effectively allows the rear wheels to be spun up whilst the front stays locked on, when you have finished burning out you let go of the switch, fluid is allowed to return as normal and you move forward. Normal brake operation is uneffected when the switch is untouched. There are variations on this but thats basically how it works. The hurst one I think you can fit around the pipework under the bonnet so its not to bad to fit.

Line Lock Kit with a link to the install instructions on the link below.
Obviously this is for a left hand drive marke and may not fit a right hand drive car.

Thats a little Mk2 Escort, try fitting that into a modern car with 2" of sound proofing. You need the remote electrical ones really for ease of use. The mechanical ones are a little dated and hard to fit neatly into modern cars.
