FAO: Mel - my 1/4 mile 2p worth...
Discussion
Mel,
I spent a bit of time last night decifering the raw data (60/330/660 ft and MPH) for your beast from Saturday. I thought at the time you could squeeze a 14.2 on the day, and you were very close to doing it! Just before lunch, you had your hardest launch of the day with a 2.3 60ft time. By 330 ft, you obviously kept traction and were on course for low 14.3 run. The hardest part was done! Then you either missed 3rd just before the half way mark (?), or backed off early because your mph dropped way off target, and you ended up with a 15.1@88mph.
Changing slightly earlier than redline (especially into 3rd and 4th) as we worked out was the right thing to do, as this increased your 660ft speed by 2mph, and 4mph at the finish, getting you easily past the 100mph mark. This indicates you are probably pushing just over 300rwhp, and will be approaching the max 1/4 mile speed achievable with the current power.
My prediction: The rained out day definitely had a better track prep, with much improved traction in the first 330ft. A 10 second static burnout at circa 4000rpm with slightly less tyre pressure (don't worry, it won't wreck your tyres if you stay in the water and you don't necessarily need it every run if your tyres keep warm) will give you about 0.2 off your best 60ft time, this will also give you good traction into second with a hard 1-2 change, change 2-3 and 3-4 by 5800rpm to maximise torque, and it should send you down the 1/4 with a mid/high 14.0 @ 103.
On your lucky day, with right weather/ temperature/ traction you might just scrape high 13.9 with no power mods, although a diff ratio change would most likely be needed to sort out the gear ratio first. This of course will also take some serious practice, and no cow slippers
ETA: Caveat: All this is my opinion only based on my 2 runs in your car, watching your runs in the pm, and gut feel. Anyone feel free to disagree or add to this if you know something that might help Mel

If I can get a sub 14sec run outta yr car as it is can I keep it

Given a chance to run it as hard as I liked for a couple of runs, I definitely think it's possible.
It easily ran 14.5@100 with a soft launch, easy changes, relatively hard/cold tyres, and me looking over my shoulder to see if Col was getting his shotgun loaded

It's more about what we can get Mel getting from her own car

You can probably keep all the rubber you leave on the track!
Frazer, the 15.15/88mph run was against me, and it was Col, he missed 3rd....(or so he says
) I couldnt squeeze less than 14.16 out of mine all day, with the set up you state, burn out lower pressures, 255 profiles (05 CV8 with same mods as Me). Only thing i didn't do was change earlier in 3rd, there just didn't seem any time!
Did these (if you want to analyse against Mels data)
60--------330-----660-----990------1320
2.340---6.183---9.309---11.871---14.154
2.313---6.099---9.227---11.830---14.162
2.417---6.288---9.380---11.893---14.158
2.300---6.097---9.252---11.841---14.163
ETA didn't change OUT of 3rd into 4th at all.....

Your 330ft times were really strong, so your car must be producing a fairly flat torque curve and from quite low down in the rev range.
Without objectively watching your runs, hearing the car under load, or getting a feel for traction limits, its a bit hard to help but I'll try. Ignore me if you tried this already during the day. I'd say 2.3 60ft times were good going for the strip, although you should have a bit more in it as your tyres must have offered more . On the line try slightly higher revs, but as your release the clutch feed the throttle to the floor a little slower. This will give you a harder drive off the line without losing traction in the initial few yards (which you just can't make up for anywhere else on the strip). Great news is that your 330ft times were in the top 200 overall, and better than most of the other stock cars. For me this indicates whatever pressures were in the tyres was about right, and the burnouts kept your tyres about the right temperature all day. This helped you keep a lot of traction through the 1-2 change.
However, it's not such good news from there, and I think you have found your own problem

Your 990 and final times suffered at a guess by maybe 2/10 sec. The line speed wasn't bad, but was down a couple of mph on what it was tracking on at half way (I'm assuming here you maintained traction changing 2-3??). There are 3 potential reasons I can guess at. Either, the car wasn't breathing well at top end, which could be as simple as cleaning a K&N filter, or doing the second hole mod if you haven't already. Have a look at the A/F graph on your last dyno chart above 5k rpm for clues. Or, the gearing didn't help as you were struggling to make the most of your torque at top end. I'd definitely try a slightly earlier change 3-4 especially if you are quick through the gears or can flat change. Your are probably better to be in 4th 50 yards from the line, rather than run it to the limiter. This alone netted an extra 2mph for Mel in her car. I'm more than happy to watch and listen next time if you aren't achieving what you want by then

From the stats, and watching your video of some of your launches, your car seems just a little bit more capable of breaking 14 on a good day, but remember anything under 0.1sec difference could be down to how much weight is in the boot, how much fuel on board, etc. Hope that helps

Think that should be easy - just timed mine for the first time - 0-60 in 5.2, 0-100 in 12.2 1/4 mile in 13.2 sec @ 107mph, must be more to come with a few more miles.
Not everything is so easy. Different car, engine, mods, driveline, driver, track, tyres, all add up to a lot of variety in times. kiwifraser said:

It sounds odd, but encouragement, self belief, and good competition often have a bigger impact than people think. Mels best time and speeds were against stiggy - concentration, or coincidence?

I'll give you one thing... consistency, and thats not as easy as it sounds.

Thanks for the feedback Frazer, it is appreciated. In reply,
Had trouble launching due to the red mist I think! As soon as I saw that green light one foot was up and one was down and thats where they stayed! My local traffic lights have seen many perfect starts, but not as east to replicate on the strip! Not been Dyno'd yet (good excuse I think....) but tbh have not even looked at the state of the filter, will try second hole mod soon. (on that note the blue coupe from up north was running 13's with same mods, but an induction kit...)
Tank was full and boot full of little boys stuff and a coolbox full of drinks and food, which, through the course of the day shifted the weight forward to the driver's seat... maybe I should dump the goodies next time?

Thank you Fraser  That fascinating stuff. Col and i have been discussing your advice and results and neither of us can wait until the next drag day to "have a go". Don't know about the burnouts though
Not brave enough although if one of you distract Col i may give it a go
. Probably stall it or worse
The cow slippers have to stay though. Their a part of me you see
I'm putting an extra pound on the lotto this weekend, that way i can buy your car off you and then give it you back
Thanks again for working it all out. It really makes a lot of sense

Mel......i read a few weeks ago that you were thinking of getting the Wortec 'sportpac' fitted to your car, did you get it done? Mines booked in at The Fish in august to get one fitted, just wondered if you were pleased with the results.
Over the moon mate. Had it done last week. The sound is addictive and truly awesome. The extra power is damn good fun. We love it. Soooooooooo much. I highly recommend.

Fantastic.......can't wait! Not sure the neighbours will be happy though!

anything up to around ~1500 rpm = no difference in sound output, so just be gentle when you set off.... coming back is a different matter though, and keeping it at 4k rpm as you decelerate into your road provides plenty of crackling and popping just to let them know you're back!

I love that popping sound. WOW its great
Your right Wolfy its sounds almost the same at idle but when you put your foot down
