Went into Dundee to see an 07 blue VXR8 with 10K on the clock, lovely looking car. Cant believe how big the boot is either and its got the ski hatch for my fishing rods lol.
The dealer seemed quite eager to get it sold and take the Ro off my hands so much so he offered 5k more for the Ro than his first offer.
This is it here.

I did like the look of it with the black wheels against the blue.

Get an LS3 6.2L they are going for £23888 brand new. That's why he is desperate to sell.

Yeah I mentioned that Picadors were selling them new at that price which is how i managed to get the Ro's trade price alot higher.
I have thought about a new one but its a bit of a stretch and a hell of a journey too.

I know taste is a very personal thing but I don't see the point of buying a VXR8 just because they are cheap. Monaros were built in limited numbers to revive a cult brand and they are arguably better looking and more interesting IMHO.

They bought that car from a mate of mine for 19k when he bought a VCR vectra estate from them. Well looked after and not driven that hard- usually with wife and kids in it.

As you said taste is a very personal thing, mabe some of us prefer the VXR8 to the Monaro, IMO.

No problem with that, although I think to buy one just because it's cheap is mistake. I guess they will get a whole lot cheaper yet because they will never be a classic like the Lotus Carlton. Nice cars and all that...oh, I'm digging a hole so I'm going to shut up

Just realised how stupid I sound; nobody buys a car for an investment. Of course, go for it but make it an LS3 I say!

Interesting to hear thanks for that, it did look to be in very good condition with only a few light stone chips on the front, sounded a lot quieter than my stock Ro. I dont like the front plate but thats an easy fix.

I'm thinking about buying it because it has a big boot, four doors, its a fair bit quicker, I love the look of them and dare I say it, it feels better built but maybe thats just because its fairly new to my 46k miles Ro. Anyways its probably going to be my last silly runabout car before I buy a Prius and concentrate on making the VW beetle even more silly.

What I didnt realise was that they are longer, wider and heavier than the Monaro. 2260kg gross weight compared to 1658kg seems an awful lot.

I stay in Aberdeen so I flew down to Picadors and signed the paperwork and got the delivery of my new VXR8 and collection of my trade in VXR8 taken back as part of the deal.
It was one day of mucking around at the airport etc but Picadors picked me up from the airport and dropped me off. Not to much hassle for a shiny new white one that gives many days of smiles

The VXR8 is about 1820Kg so only about 7% more than the 1700Kg CV8.

Most of the extra performance comes from substantially shorter gearing. Both gear ratios and diff are shorter.

Ahh right, i've picked up duff info from autotrader.

So that big tall 6th gear will be gone then. I actually quite like it in the Ro but it gets tedious coming into 30 limits and following people hovering around 40 - 50mph because there's no engine braking.

+1

Engine braking is there as Granada says, it can be made more "urgent" to save more fuel etc. Though I had to up my ramp out speeds to make the stroker feel a bit less jerky. Otherwise when the fuel cut off ended she launched forward again with too much power.

I do. Its got the L92 heads which are far more efficient than the 243's on the LS2 and for a little more you can convert it into an LS9 (Well near enough anyway). In any case the LS3 makes a fantastic platform for a number of upgrades, if you have the imagination, starting with a simple cam upgrade for a 40HP gain. Add an OTR and a mafless tune

I do prefer the shape of the Vz's to the VE's, but at that price, I think I could allow it to grow on me.

I would be interested to know what an APS blower system on her would produce?

That just made me smile, been there before many times, and no doubt will go there again! L.o.l.

But just think about the drive back! (couldn't get this and Wormus' quotes in one entry!) But to be honest, all things being equal, would recommend a new one; bigger, newer engine and all the stone chips would be yours! Good luck, both are awesome cars!
