As some of you may already know, I have a PC fitted to my CV8 and as I'm a compulsive 'fiddler', I have recently added an OBDII interface and have it working with the PC. Problem is that Centrafuse only displays a few basic parameters. I have downloaded the EFIlive software and installed it but can't seem to get it to talk to the ELM327 interface (USB). Was wondering if someone with a bit more knowledge can give a few hints on getting the software and hardware talking. I know you need the EFIlive hardware if you wish to 're flash' the ECU, I don't, just wish to use it to record data for examination later. Anyone know how?

I tried to do this but it doesnt look like the EFI software will talk to a generic OBD reader.

Im almost 100% certain that the software will want to do the work for you via the hardware and OS on the efilive hardware. There whats called a pass-through mode where the cable just forms the interface. However it probably wants to handshake an efilive unit before continuing to talk to the ECU.

You might find someone on the forum has an older v1 unit which will work fine with your CV8 and is cheaper than the V2 one. I think a someone posted up here they had theirs spare after selling off their car. Pomona?

If you case out the efilive website you can see the v1 scan only unit is about £179 and would do all you wanted it to do. How much was the obd-II unit you bought?

OBD 2 Scanners of ebay are around £30 but they are no where near as good or fast as the decent stuff which is why im going to have to get a EFI or HP Tuner box.

The ELM327 unit was only about 25 squid, it talks to all other software I've tried - HP Tuners, ScanXL, Proscan, etc just not EFIlive. I guess if it won't talk to EFIlive - then bye bye EFIlive. It seems odd that you can download the software for testing/demo purposes but it won't work unless you pay for the hardware, strange way of getting customers.

To be far the software is for seeing how to do tunes and see how its all layed out and whats possible if it worked with generic OBD readers how would they sell any units apart from the tuning boxs.

Sounds a good way to me. HPTuners dont usually let you download it, probably for the reason you note. efilive is free to download, HPT would be illegal unless you have paid the license wink

It lets you get to grips with the software before deciding you want to buy the handset. Otherwise as you say you wouldnt need to and the solution would be free. Which while a nice communist ideal gordan brown would approve of, wouldnt pay the bills at efilive hq.
But if it worked, I agree it would be nice in a CarPC.

Not really, thats the norm for software - demo versions are free to download to experiment with but crippled for actual use. I bought Efilive v1 from ringram nearly 4 years ago - still a complete novice with it but love being able to log whats going on in the car on dyno days etc and experiment with changes to maps. Now I've actually got some time off work for a couple of weeks I'm going to upload a custom os and enable the valet mode switch I wired in while the car was in pieces. For what you get its excellent value for money and unlike some developers you get all the latest updates for FREE - none of this annual maintenance nonsense some ask for. Can't comment on the other tuning software as havent tried any of them but I for one would give efilive a thumbup
