I was thinking, would a 19" set of vxr8 alloys fit onto a monaro without problems? Are the rear vxr8 alloys 9.5" wide?

Yes. I had some 285's put on yesterday, they are very close to the innner guard.

VXR8 fronts fit though don't they so if you can get 4 of them you should be okay without modding any metalwork?

Yes, but you wont get any performance gain. The centre bore needs machining too. And the R8 tyres will be no use to you as they run a higer profile.

so all in all there are cheaper ways of getting a set of 19" wheels

I can do you a nice set of 20" - 9 and 10" wide to fit a Ro... smile You will need to trim off the rear lip on the arch though to get clearence with 285/25 tires.

Thanks for the offer roger but my new alloys have arrived, just waiting for tyres. The reason i asked the question is because ive never seen or heard of anyone having it done, until now.

i will when they are on the car, the bloke that ordered them for me is on holiday until Monday. I went round to the garage and the paint finish on the outer lip isn't very good, the red lip looks to have smudged onto the black. I have emailed team dynamics about getting them redone, will wait and see.

Did the VXR8 wheel conversion to a Ute, not a simple task for sure! especially as I kept the bigger ratio tyres and 9.5 rears

I have read that a taller side wall profile and lower tyre pressure as used on drag radials can be more effective at generating grip than just fitting wider wheels alone. The main reason for fitting wider tyres with a lower profile is they don't get so hot at high speed and have more lateral grip so all you are doing is changing the shape of the contact patch, not the size of it.

To put more weight over the driven axle makes more sense to me, amyone remember how good fwd cars are in the snow and how crap ours were?

This is quite interesting: www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible_pg2.html

Thats why in winter you need a vxr8 because you can fit all the family in the boot for extra traction!
