any of you guys done this mod? it involves rerouting the coolant to bypass the throttle body, its a quick mod can be done in 5 mins, not sure as to weather it actually works, there has been some debate about it.
seems to be popular with the camaro owners over in the states.

my throttle bodys no longer redhot, which i can only assume helps with heatsoak, its maybe not as affective on my car but sure it will help you S/C lads to help lower the intake temps etc

Yeah I did it on my LS1. Zero Ill effects. Ive seen some dyno's showing gains, which should exist in theory. But by how much who knows.
If its free then there is no reason why not to do it.
Maybe people in the north of scotland might want to retain the water flow through the throttle to stop the blade icing up. But otherwise no point. LS2 has no water in the throttle. So its obviously not a problem.

i looked into the 'icing' factor, and i dont think theres been one person who's had the problem. The states gets some dam cold winters too.

How is this mod done? Could somebody please explain it to me. Does it work on the cable operated throttle bodies only, or on the FBW throttles too? If its free then I don't mind trying it

Direct link http://www.installuniversity.com/install_universit...

I did mine without any parts. You can just loop the tube from before the throttle to the connection after the throttle. No parts required.

never bothered with it myself - partly because of the concern with the icing up and any gains are likely to be some minimal it hardly seemed worth the effort. be interesting to see just how much of a reduction in intake temps it actually makes - volume of air being pushed through a very short distance in the tb, surely cant be significant?

A couple of bhp here and a couple there, next thing you know you have the highest horsepower ls1 wink
Porting the throttle is another good free mod. I hacked hell out of my 90mm one at the weekend. Took a massive amount of metal out of it.

How did you do that ? I would have thought you would need specialist equipment to make sure its all an even opening ?

Nah, just dont touch the area around the blade when its in a closed posistion. Thats important for idle etc. There is plenty you can hack off around the mouth which is nothing to do with the rest of it but gets in the way.

Otherwise you are correct dont mess with the body where it seals against the blade. There is one point at which the blade pretty much seals against the body for example.

Some of them don't open fully so that's also worth checking.

saw the mod for "thinning" the spindle that holds the plate in a previous thread on this mod - this months Street Commodores talks about porting the tb but gives a stern warning that the screws used to bolt the spindle to the plate need to be very securely done with loctite in case they work loose and get sucked into the engine. Seems helluva risky for the extra few horses unless you know what you're doing, be easy to wreck a tb worth a few hundred quid or worse do engine damage!
