Hi guys,

anyone know the Morris oil type and qty required to refill a year 2000 Manual GTS? Any other oil recommendations?

I used Royal Purple gearbox oil in the Monaro

Royal Purple Synthetic Synchromax Manual Trans Fluid
Price: $7.99
Quantity: 6

That was August 2007 US prices, between that and the diff oil Royal Purple Max-Gear Synthetic Gear Oil 75w140 Quart @ $9.99 I spent $78 on the oils then $116 on the air freight plus tax/duty - still worked out cheaper than I could get here at the time.

Got one full one back from the dealer that filled the gearbox so between 4-5 quarts to brim it, advice was to remove sensor from top of gearbox and fill from there as the fill plug apparently only 3/4 fills it??

Edit: According to Royal Purple website the T56 uses Dexron III standard oils as stock.

I used to use Fuchs ATF4000 in my T56, and never had a problem. It worked great, cheap and cheerful

When I got a new uprated box built, I decided to splash out on some Mainlube 154-solid boundary gear oil from Australia.

so ATF then and not 80w oil. Its a bit confusing as the haynes book says 80w oil for a manual box but ATF seems OK as well. Is there any benefit in one above the other or is it a T56 specific to use ATF.

DO NOT fill your T56 with regular gear oil!

As suggested by Wellfans, Royal Purple Syncromax is the way to go.

The odd thing is.....the yank/viper guys seem to like putting gear oil in.

If the right oil is chosen, it seems either can be suitable. I wouldnt say mine is a "regular" gear oil, but is is a gear oil.

Going to try the royal purple syncromax MTF, (£113 for 6 quarts delivered next day). Hope it quietens and eases the box a bit as its starting to show its age. Still don't understand the difference between ATF, MTF and 80W oil though.

$12.99 a quart in the US (around 9 quid) with FREE shipping - and they still say we get stuff at a fair price!!!!! So how does it feel paying more than 2x what a Yank pays for the same stuff?
