I have noticed that when I come to a stop at a junction or traffic lights for instance the engine continues to hold its revs for a couple of seconds before droping down to tick over, is this normal? the warranty runs out next month so i'm looking for faults...

Are you letting the RPM drop below idle (~800rpm) when you slow and then dropping the clutch? If so the engine management compensates and you end up with a few too many revs before it sorts itself out.
Better to blip and change sooner at higher revs, then you're always ready to see off that nova/corsa/other boyracer wannabee which has caught you off guard.......!

Is it tuned?
There is an ECU function called cracker which holds idle high based on some settings etc.
If its stock you can ask if there is an update. If its got a tune, bend the tuners ear!

Ok in which case is it a recent occurance? If so it could be the idle air motor gummed up.
Either way yes, talk to VX about it.
