just got back from having hsd's fitted

( please note iam not very techy when it comes to cars, but i know some one here will have comments/views to explain some bits better )

plus i know ben from hsd will correct me or fill in the blanks

but going back to last week first, when i picked up my car from the fish, roger noticed that right hand side top mount rubber was being sucked through the hole, and it was to late in the day to fix it then. so i took the rubbers with me, also my car needed the geometry alignment done, but was best to do this after hsd were fitted.. has i have also had an issue with play in my stering for some time..

when ben had fitted the hsd's i took it for a spin and found a rubbing noise coming from stering / top mounts after a call to the fish bow roger said that my bearings had also gone ( grit was found in one)

so i will have to book car in with roger for next week to get bearing/geometry/and also get heavy duty drop links fitted, and have everything work right before i can say how good/bad things are ..
saying that.. car dose feel nice small bumps are not a problem! did hit 2/3 big ones on the motorway on way home (200 miles) mrs007 said she was bumped around a bit more !! so possibly need soft spring? but still early days will do some driving around roads i know and see the what thats like...car is a lot better when i plant my right foot and she sits flat.. and theres no rocking when i change gear..also long fast corners are a lot better now . watching other cars in front of me on the way back they were bouncing alot more over bumps that i was , but the roads i was on are not roads iam used to driving on .. i have never had after market suspention fitted to a car before so this is still new to me.

did have i drive in paintermans vxr8 on way to the fish last week to pick my car up, and found his car had a much nicer ride that my standard monaro suspention and better in corners to ...

would be nice to hear from anyone with after market suspention fitted to there monaros .. as to what changes they noticed most ...good/bad!

will some pics up hear asap..

How many miles has your car done ? Seems to be a few things that need attention, just wondered if they are mileage related and whether to look out for any of them ?

I believe the strut top bearings can play up at any time. Roger at Monkfish showed me a bearing, and it is simply a poor design - plastic casing with a slot around the middle that dirt and grit can get into. Luck of the draw how long they last. The originals on my car lasted 5 years and 27k miles, I had them replaced when the new dampers went on and 2 months and less than 1000 miles later one of the new ones began creaking.

When I put my offset top mounts in I tripped the bearings, cleaned and repacked them with grease. They were ok but had I left them for another year they would no doubt have started to deteriorate through a lack of grease and dirt getting in.

BTW - I have some HD top mounts going if anyone wants them

just have to say ..been for another drive , and feel i would like her a little bit softer . as i dont go on the track .but its not that hard .rang ben and he said he would order me up some softer springs.. 1hr later he called me back had got springs asked to to order bearings from roger .. ben then drove to the fish from birmingham and is now driving to me in kent to fit them for me, . so my car is right for the south east meet on sunday ..dose customer service get any better than that ?? over all iam liking them alot, car feels better even with bearing problems and wheels not lined up right .. will up date when ben has finished ... then just got to drive up to the fish to get geometry alignment done before sat and she sould be sweet .. thank you ben .. top man .

bens just finished all back on car ..just been for a quick spin ....all very good ..
springs are a bit softer .. and she rides great think springs are 10kg front 7kg rear but fogot to ask ben will ring him tuesday and ask then update ... just got trip to the fish to do geometry alignment ... hope i can do that on thursday ..this will give her a good run .. but very happy now !!

the car felt good before, and if i was going on the track 4/5 times ayear i would have kept the harder springs.. but for me she seams better with softer spring.....

holds the road much better and no more probs on motorways in hi winds.. sticks like glue .hard or soft .

Excellent service on their part !!

Do they normally do fitting or are you supposed to by HSD's and fit them yourself ?

Sound like a good idea, especially as a spirited drive yesterday introduced me to to a slightly 'boaty' feel around some of the lanes

You sure its not just follwing the camber? If thats not the case, try swapping the front wheels left to right, assuming that is that you dont have directional tyres. Its probably tyre drift.
