Hi all, i,m currently taking a well deserved holiday, road tripped it to the Isle of Man on mon. The roads are amazing, sorry i mean scary!! I'm bored of seeing scoobys and evo's even tho this place is made for them.

Cutting to the chase, anyone else on here a resident of the IoM or on thier hols.

I'll post some pics of my adventures on here soon.

see all those going to the south east meet soon.

I go over there at least twice a year of the bike racing. If you visit the Queens Hotel in Laxey there's a red VXR Monaro there quite a lot. There is also a black CV8 I see on the sea front in Douglas.

Now that is somewhere I'd LOVE to take the 'ro!

Know the TT course inside out after years on bikes, and I do a pretty mean lap in a tranny van!

Only car I've ever taken around was an Omega V6 - compared to a big bike it felt like watching paint dry, but my passenger (who'd never been to the island before) was a gibbering wreck.

The bike lap record is now over 131mph (average!)from a standing start. In the late eighties one of the top rally drivers (I think it was Tony Pond) tried to achieve a 100mph flying lap in a full-on works rally car (TR8?) and failed miserably.

Nope, Tony Pond did a 100mph lap in a bog standard Rover Vitesse 827 and his lap record still stands for a car.

I'm going in Aug for the GP. I will try not to break my arms this year!

I'd love to go there but it costs a bloody fortune on the ferry doesn't it ? (when you take a car)

Yeh it's not the best way to get to the island,I usually fly but even then they have very little competition so they have you by the balls when it comes to prices.

I came over in my astra a few years back and that was fun but now i'm havin second thoughts about bringing Ro's here. Grounded out gettin on the sea cat at Liverpool, potential exhaust wrenching ramp getting off at Douglas and the roads that are not used for racing are pretty bone shaking.

All that said tho once i hit that national speed limit sign (which is whatever mph you want) all that is forgotten and the roar of the V8 takes over the world outside becomes very blury.
So far it has not disappointed and i finish everyday smiling my arse off. would like it to be a bit dryer but i am on a rock in the middle of the irish sea, so i'm not holding my breath on that one.

Pics to follow.

I consider it my second home. Been going twice a year since 1997 and love the place. I would move there tomorrow but there aren't many well paid IT jobs so I'd have to re-train.

If you get the chance, take a trip down to Douglas key, there's a really nice pub there next to the station called "The Railway". Sells a really good selection of beer.

Also, be careful of the Police, it may be unrestricted but drive like a tt and they will have you, especially if you have an accident like I did.

I definitely recall Tony Pond failing to do 100mph - I was there. The Wikpedia extract below proves us both right! I'll concede it was a Rover Vitesse (I was very...very...drunk during the 1980's laugh) but I still think he had a roll cage and race tyres. Who cares, it was a magnificent drive, on a magnificent road.

In 1988 Pond and Rover attempted to achieve the first ever average 100mph lap around the Isle Of Man TT Motor Bike race circuit in a standard production car namely a Rover Vitesse - however they were unsuccessful, largely due to wet weather on the mountain section of the course. On his second attempt on the 6th June 1990 he teamed up again with Austin Rover and achieved immortality by taking a standard production car, a Rover 827 Vitesse, and became the first ever production car and driver to average over 100mph around the Isle Of Man TT Motor Bike Circuit. To this date, this feat has never been equalled.[1]
