You've probably seen the advert on TV for webuyanycar.com?

Thought I'd stick mine in and see what they'd give me for it - just for fun (although if they gave me a lot I might be interested in going for a VXR8)....

56 Reg 6.0l VXR with 43,000 miles, with FSH and in excellent condition.

They offered my £12,180.

Actually I didn't think that was too bad? What do you reckon?

Not enough to make me change mind you, but interesting none the less.

Doesn't seem tooooo bad when you think about, its a guaranteed sale afterall as long as they don't start knocking money off when you go to hand it over.

Tried this with my Astra convertible and they offered me a grand less than I got privately. I know a grand is a lot of money but if you had to shift something quickly it wouldn't be a bad way to go.

Ive tried it on a number of cars out of curiosity, anything thats old is sort of 6-9year old they offer stupidly low prices on, however much newer popular stuff they offer above trade on it, stuff like mini's that are new ish so its always worth looking at just incase!

Guess that is how they make their money I guess. If you need the money, you are going to be desperate to take anything that is on offer...

£8,715 for an 05 VXR, 60,000 miles with switchable exhaust and LS7 clutch. There doesn't seem to be anything to enter details about modifications, but ticking the modify box didn't make any difference to the price.

i had a friend that used this service to get shot of his old car before it fell apart.

when you take the car down there they inspect it and try to knock money off from what they quoted you. in his case they knocked a few quid off agreed a price signed papers etc. and all done. he got a phone call a few days later saying they have found faults and want to reduce the price more. my friend had to remind them a price was already agreed and signed. he got his full money but what a cheek.

for those interested it was a fiat coupe

Looks like about the level you'd be offered as a p/x currently.

why would a car be worth more if it has a different clutch?

For a clutch I don't think it should be worth more, or not much more anyway. What I'm getting at is their website is only really geared to standard cars. While there is an option to say your car is modified it doesn't ask what the mods are, so a supercharged 600bhp monster will get a very similar value on their site as a standard car.

Worth a try but remember they *will* reduce the price. Unless your car is pristine showroom condition they will take off money for every single little fault they can find. For example, I know a friend who got money knocked off because the car needed a wash (it had been raining - duh) and similar things.

They don't understand fair wair and tear so a few stonechips would be expected in any car thats covered 20k miles but not these guys.

As long as you go there expecting to actually get several hundered to a couple k less than you were offered then it's ok.

at the end of the day there out to make money and so are u so its a no go if u want to get a decent price from a decent buyer u will have to wait remember all good things come to those who wait..and as far as mods u really cant expect to get everything back there just a bonus when u buy a car in most cases

Not being rude to anyone who has modified their car as I have too the trade guides do not recognise modifications to cars, spend 3k on new alloys the cars worth the same as before for example. To a private buyer they are worth more if and its a big if the right buyer is found.

You would be surprised how many people try to rip the trade off when part exchanging cars, I have pages and pages of examples of cars that have not been as described when traded in, which when the garage then goes on to sell it to someone either in the trade or as a retail sale in some cases cant be done or they make a loss, and it does happen alot, only option then is to the auction and to hope you get your money back.

Its not all easy sailing in the trade and as I say the seller of the cars are a lot more ruthless than people would believe!
