VXR8 Questions
Discussion
Just some quick questions please guys and gals.
Jobs I have planned first.
Wheels:
I am thinking of getting the wheels painted Black'ish, with silver inserts, can't think of anything nicer to fit the Red which my car is ??
Anyone got any better ideas ?
Limiter:
I want to have the limiter removed, is there a way to do it yourself ? Does the car have OBD port or similar, if so can you buy the lead and software for your laptop etc ?
Exhaust:
My car will sadly come with the standard exhaust, I will have to save up for the Wortec "electric" unit, i'm planning on going with that one so I can have the Loud/Quiet option on the fly as I plan to take my car on the track, not to mention the fact its nice to have the option of the quieter setting when coming in late at night
, my question is, are there any other viable options or is the Wortec one the only decent one worth considering ?? Cost IIRC is around £1600 correct ?
Tune/Remap/Cam ?
Hmm this is a tough one, dependant on the price I could be interested in having a remap to go with the zorst, but if a Cam is not to much money it would be worth saving for the whole lot in one bang ?
Max NA power ?
Whats the most sensible WHP you can get from a NA engine ?? Just interested, by sensible I mean cost effective ?
Thanks in advance.
Mark.

Sky's the limit. How fat's your wallet? Decide how much you want to spend and you can start your list.Max NA power ?
Thanks in advance.

Was discussing this today and bang for buck you probably can't beat a supercharger for a quick 100hp.
Putting it down safely should be an important item on the list, so save some of the budget for suspension and chassis.
The other rec' I could make is to get the work done by someone who has happy customers and can demonstrate their success. Your supplier base is limited to three or four companies.

3k would be my starting budget for sure........
I would be happy in time to spend more, but thats a realistic starting point, rules out the supercharger eh.
I also forgot to mention I would obviously be doing the suspension / brakes at some point.
Will probably start with pads and springs whilst I save up money for the more serious options in the future.
As it was wet at Rockingham when I test drove the VXR8 I was not able to push the limits with the brakes, but they did feel pretty solid and had a reasonable "pedal", traditionally im super hard on my brakes and kill OEM brakes very quickly normally, have done so in all my BMW's , Can anyone inject any experience of the standard VXR8 brakes as a rule of thumb ? do they fade bad when you push on ? they look pretty substantial at least

I managed to loose my standard vxr8 brakes after 3 hard stops from 100 down to about 30, but they've also coped fine with the Nurburgring so they are still pretty good, I have the Walkinshaw 6 pots n9w and they just get stronger the more you use them, so maybe just a pad upgrade would do.

The R8's are good in the wheel/tyre/brake dept, no need to waste a couple of grand getting them to be where they should've been, like with the Monaro's etc. Pads yes, get your spec' sorted and that is an easy job.I would be happy in time to spend more, but thats a realistic starting point, rules out the supercharger eh.

You've got very good heads (LS3 right?)which can breath better with a nice little cam and tune. A cam and springs/tune should not be an expensive job. Shame we don't have any good intake porters over here as that would be the icing on the cake with that job.
To help the breathing consider a nice set of headers and exhaust mod', again can be expensive over here if you're paying someone else, but do-able.

Voices of experience appreciated thanks, saves making expensive mistakes
We're all apprentices with much to learn, we can only share what experiences we have. There's no-one on here that knows it all. Just have a gleg at what goes on here. You'll soon sort the wheat from the chaff, and there's plenty of the latter.
Guys in Oz have 500rwhp with a cam and bolt on's.
But it would be a pretty large cam and not emissions freindly.
Ultimately max power would be from a forged engine and some sort of power addet, FI, NOS etc.
Depends on what you want to achieve powerwise.
Id say a new tvs on the LS3 would generate some pretty nice numbers comparible to the LS9 ZL-1 if supercharging rocks your boat.
If Tiler is nearby let him give you a demo of his, he normally has something interesting.
Personally I have a larger displacement engine, semi W427 material. Which is more than competitive against most/all current vxr8's
Oh and yes you can remove the limiter yourself. www.efilive.com for example.
