I want one...............just the cam
Discussion
This has been on my favourites for quite a while now, can anyone tell me the spec of the cam, I know it won't pass mot over here but I can listen to that all day.....

How come the Aussies can get away with it...................
A lot of the rules with modified cars are a lot stricter in Oz than they are here.
Over here, whilst we do get hassle....we can almost do what we like and still remain fairly legal.
It's gradually getting into more of a strict regime though, where we arent allowed to do anything. So enjoy it while you can.

only way is to buy one and find out.
And as most know...some MOT testers are friendlier than others.
+1 most cams arnt a problem as above. And as most know...some MOT testers are friendlier than others.
But for example the rule of thumb in the US is 0 overlap at 0.050 cam duration for emissions states.
So stuff on 114 in the low/mid 22x range "should" be close.
hack overlap formula is (intake + exhaust)/4 - LSA * 2
Use 0.050 durations. Hack because that only tells you valve events at 0.050 not actual events.
Comp's 216/220-114 would almost definately pass with cats but in my mind is a bit small.
The bigger the engine the larger the cam you need.
The cam in the video will have plenty of overlap as Stevie says, that means it will idle rough, be more likely to be jerky in gear at low speed etc.
I know Roger has done cam tests so knows what passes. Im not sure if he has tested the largest cam that will pass ok or not as he prefers smaller cams. Mark may also have a good idea at Rapid. Best to ask them.
Or do what I did and get a 2 piece cover for easy cam changes and buy the cam best suited for your goals with the idea that if it misses emissions target you can swap down in size a bit easier. (or up for that matter!)

It is indeed a 23x cam and power was over 400rwhp.

Yeah, personally I like a lumpy idle. The harder the better, but I also want it to crawl along in gear with zero throttle. Otherwise traffic jams are pure hell. I also dont want any bucking at low rpm and speeds.
With the modern ecu's and the ability to tune without the maf's which dont like lumpy cams as well as Alpha-n fueling there is no reason a crazy sized cam cant be made to drive nicely.
However fuel consumption with a wild cam might not be very nice around town.
My current setup is a good compromise. Anyone interested in a cammed setup let me know at the Bathurst Bash at the Ace.

The cam on the monkfish demos good although it did sound like it was going to cut out. Col's getting some cam thing done when the fish start doing them.
