After looking at the finances for this year im going to have to shelve the idea of changing the charger for a intercooled one, a upcoming house move and the fact would like another 2 hols this year have put a stop to pulling out £5k for what want doing to the car so that will have to wait till next year, hopefully by then car sales will be back up again and all will be well! Plus the current charger will if I do the heads/cam run the power I want quite easily so all of you going on about heads/cams may have converted me here a bit!

That then leaves me with your original suggestion of the water/methanol system, admittedly it is a bit of a stop gap but after seeing what happened with an S600vxr's engine recently thats put the chills on me and want to protect the engine a bit more.

As my knowledge of water/methanol systems is as useless as everything else on these cars where do I start!?

The boot mounted tanks look about the best from the brief read through ive had, what size tank would you recommend? Also which kit do I need to go for as the car is supercharged?

Thanks for any help.

Mate - My issue was fuel related - ie not enough of the stuff going in so the cylinder over heated just enough to take a plug out. The piston was fine till the plug top hit it! If your not running 12psi then your as safe as houses IMHO and even 12psi was ok for me with running at the ring, drag racing, top speed running etc. Just unlucky I guess.
Also remember my 122 setup is for sale complete if your interested as Im going to go bigger with the TVS2300 at some time.... and mine is fully intercooled etc etc. smile

If you want to go 12psi then just upgrade the fuel system which is the first thing I am doing myself now before it goes in for the engine work. APS sell a nice drop in fuel system although it aint cheap for what you actually get but needs must! LOL

How can you know that ?

Excessive intake temps can pretty much cause the same thing when fuelling is borderline, but perhaps regarded as safe.

What fuel pump/injectors are actually used on your car anyway Roger ? Chances are a single Bosch 044 in tank would be perfectly adequate along with some 600cc injectors at your current power level.
ALthough the APS stuff does look nice.

Also check out the fuel systems on http://www.ls1turbo.com.au/uk/fuel.html Apparently APS can be a nightmare to actually buy stuff from.

IMO, if opting for WI, just buy a complete kit from the US.

IMO This type of kit with the tank, controller and pump all in a nice unit...is a great choice for boot mount.

http://www.alcoholinjectionsystems.com/p102/Stage-...

Devil's own is another, but with crappy tanks

http://www.methanol-injection.co.uk/water-injectio...

or Snow Performance ( Euro distributor, although US might be cheaper )

http://www.snowperformance.eu/boost-cooler-wassere...

Cooling Mist...they also offer the nice tank.

Alky Control

http://www.alkycontrol.com/

FJO

http://www.fjoracing.com/products/waterinjection/

And I wouldnt be surprised if there are more suppliers. The controllers may vary a little, as do the various fittings and hoses used. The pumps are all esentially the same Shurflo item though.

Some people might like the kit to use braided lines etc...I just see that as an extra hassle and expense. The push fit nylon tubing works fine, unless for some reason the lines had to be routed in bad locations.

I am just installing an AIS Stage 2 programmable trunk kit. They are good quality and the controller is programmable if required (many others do this as well. I think they guy at AIS is called Rodney. He is very helpful. Send him an email and tell him what you are trying achieve.

Let me know if you are ordering a kit as I need some different sized nozzles and he might put them in your box for me.

Appreciate what your saying about the fuelling however on hot days I can feel the performance getting less on the car clearly due to the temps so want to maintain that aswell as the long term life of the engine.

What sort of price would you be looking at for your set up (feel free to pm me) im not 100% sure if going to change the set up as the charger I have will do the job im looking at but may be tempted!

Stevie and Jamie thanks for the links will give me a bit of reading to do tonight!

Jamie how come only use it on hot days, is it purely for protection of the engine as opposed to performance related?

What charge temps do you see? Also out of interest, what charge temps do the intercooled 112 & 122 boys see on a warm day?

Yeah just a bit of protection, ive not mapped in the water injection as id be to worried about system failure and killing my engine, its just there for if i feel its a bit hot and want to cool things down.

Be interested to see any pics you have of the install and also how easy it is to do.

Are the standard sized nozzles you got no good for our cars?

I have only started the wiring & main line sofar. Mine is a VT BTW. As I have a FMIC I will be installing the nozzle in the IC pipe before the TB. You will probably have to install the nozzle in the TB. Speak to the guys @ AIS about your nozzle size. I have gone for a small nozzle as I already have an intercooler.

You use it when necessary.

For me...using it on the road is a waste of time. I can use the car without intake temps getting excessive. Well...they would if I held the car for more than a few seconds at a time..but then, thats just getting silly. Generally whilst on the move, temps stay within reasonable limits. Certainly lower than road speeds anyway lol.

When racing, a lot of sitting about, heat soak etc. It becomes more important, as lack of airflow means IC cooling is compromised. So its an ideal time to give a little extra cooling, and of course extra safety when its needed most.

Although that is with an already decent IC setup, which none of the PD style blowers have due to physical space available. So running the WI more of the time might be a better course of action.

For a variety of reasons, for a road car I see no point in using water/meth in higher concentrations that 50/50

I only get high intake temps if ive been sitting in traffic, my dash2 http://www.race-technology.com/dash2_2_31.html display gives a warning if they get above 50degree ans i switch on the water injection.

Technically I can see a reason to run a higher percentage of Methanol for cooling purposes but have to agree, I wouldn't run higher than 50/50.
