Paint Protection
Discussion
We payed a fortune for Diamond Brite which was OK but very over priced. In my experience just make sure you give it a good wash with a decent wax shampoo and then apply a good coat of wax. I went through lots of different types of polish and wax and i found Auto Smart "Protective sealer Polish" which protects the paint from the effects of weather, followed by Auto Smart Luxury Wax polish" They products were easy to use and very effective.
The best thing (which is not always practical) is to apply a layer of wax each time you wash the car. I do this but am a little obsessive with the paintwork. Every now and then i use Xymol Light wax. Its expensive but very good.
The guys on the detailing forum could give you any further advice, or PM me

I personally think that dealer paint protection is over priced. As mel has already said check out deatailing world. I personally use finish kare 1000p high temp wax which is holding up well. Cost £18 for a huge tin. If you give the paint a good polish first and wash the car fairly often then it should last approx 6 months.
I wash this car (VXR8) about every week or two (depends on weather) just as I treated the two previous cars (including pressure washing under the wheel arches, especially in the winter). They were excellent after about 7 years, the guys who bought them (both Autobahnstormer's members) contacted me after to say how pleased they were with the cars.
